    Great work rretsiem!

As mentioned earlier, it's getting late, but believe me I will try that out tomorrow!
I'll make sure to post back with results.

    • enable Bluetooth (yep, you read right!) from the preferences panel
    • from now on WiFi was activated at my device! Magic!
    • doctoring again to 3.0.2
    • activate as usual and enjoy your TouchPad again :-)

    .
Well, I just couldn't help myself trying this anyway last night (who can sleep when one might just be 30mins away from restoring ones TP anyway?)

    • Steps 1-3 got me back into my unit (so nice to see the "desktop" again)
    • Airplane mode enable and disable too only few seconds (no radios active, so that makes sense)
    • Trying to enable wifi from the preferences panel left me spinning for a few minutes before continuing
    • Enabling BT from preferences panel gave me 1min of spinning before reporting "ON"

This was where my progress stopped; no magic for me I guess.
Wifi was not activated by itself, from preferences menu or from settings->wifi...

Running auto-diagnostics on the wifi resulted in the same error code (1000).

Could you be a bit more specific on the magic part?
(was it activated all by it self, or did you do it, where did you do it, and how long did it take for it to come back on?)

I'll get back to my attempts later today.

OK, just did some more testing - the time in my unit has not been set, so disregard the 2hour offset.

Through the QuickInstaller I downloaded /var/log/messages from my TP and did a Airplane mode disable and wifi enable from the preferences panel - log snippet follows:

    Code:

rretsiem, did you also see this in your log?

If I remember correctly AR could be short for Atheros, which would mean that the wifi does not get enabled at all.

Seeing these messages as kernel alert, warning and error, could it be possible that a install of uberkernel through the quick installer would solve this, or am I barking up the wrong tree?
Edit: No uberkernel available in quick install? - and why does a doctor not solve the driver/kernel issue?

As I wrote earlier, any inputs on how to solve this would be very welcome.

Having the same problem here. I tried the exact sequence of steps that rretsiem and knoer did. I managed to bypass activation, but still can't enable WiFi regardless of whatever sequence of airplane mode, Bluetooth, etc. activations I perform.

A few weeks ago, I contacted Palm support, eventually got escalated to a more senior support engineer, who told me to send in the device, which I did. Wednesday I received it back in the mail, and the problem was still there. I suspect they just ran WebOS Doctor (or maybe not even that).

    Frustrating.

Not sure, currently I don't have the problem.
Sorry for the delayed answer, was really busy and on a business trip last 2 days.

I've had this issue one more time just a few hours later, but this time, I didn't doctored fresh, just turned the device off, waited a few seconds and back on. Still no WiFi activation possible. So I tried to enable Airplane mode, disabled it again, still no WiFi.
I than enabled Bluetooth, but also Bluetooth couldn't be enabled this time. I left the device in this state for a couple of mins, because I started novaterm to ssh in the device and collect some logs, and magically (really, haven't done any touches at all, only so that the display stayed active) after 5-10 minutes both BT ad WiFi are appeared and I got connected to my network.

balducci, thanks for joining the thread the unfortunate group of wireless-less users.

rrestsiem, thanks for your reply - I had a small hope that you might have saved the log, you extracted some days ago, and could provide further information. :-)

I have not been able to make further progress on this matter - been trying various enabling/disabling patterns, but no results yet.
I linked to this post on forums.palmone.com; HP Touch Pad cannot find Wifi connections - Support Community
Seems we are more than three with this issue..

Currently I'm biding my time, waiting to see if HP comes up with a WebOS 3.0.3 and if that fixes it, or when the CM team comes up with their android build, which I definitely will try out to see if that is able to enable my wireless card, otherwise I think my TP will be converted into a digital photoframe :-(

(Or one could try the chroot+ubuntu solution while we wait - but I don't have that much spare time on my hands currently)

I'm having the same issue now. Just happened suddenly. Have tried the previous method of airplane mode, bluetooth etc but no luck . Im using the F15 rom.

Hi A[L]C, thank you for posting here - it is "interesting" to know that the issue is also present on non-stock kernels - that could support the idea that it is related directly to the wifi radio (be it hardware or software).
It could be interesting to compare logs to see if it is indeed the same issue.

If anyone could try using WOSQI to download the file /var/log/messages from your TP, find any lines containing PmWiFiService (and maybe a couple of lines above/below these lines).
Then please post it here (or otherwise share it with the rest of us).

I, for one, would like to have a look at it and see if the error messages are the same.
(I have found no personal information in this file - see the part I posted in #24)

    Hi Knoer,

If you could explain how, then I would gladly post the log.

    Thanks

    Sure..

Have you been using the WebOS Quick Installer (WOSQI?) to install preware on your TP?

    If so, try these steps:
    1. Connect TP to PC via USB, just leave the messagebox on the TP when it is connected.
    2. Run WOSQI on your PC.
    3. In the WOSQI menu there is a "download file from device" (or something like that, I don't remember the exact title currently)
    4. This opens a pop-up window on your PC where you need to specify a path on the TP and a path on your PC.
    5. The file on the TP is located on /var/log/messages so input this in textbox 1.
    6. Download this to any folder on your PC - use the browse button if you prefer.

The downloaded file is a text file - so you can open it as such - or rename it to messages.txt, if you prefer.

Before you pull this file from your TP, try enabling/disabling airplane mode, and enabling Wifi (then these entries should show up somewhere at the bottom of the messages-file, and easier to find)
From the bottom of the file, then try to locate the entries containing PmWiFiService - have a look at the log I posted, and see if you can find similar lines in your.

Copy/Paste this in a post using the syntax [ CODE ] "pasted log lines here" [ /CODE ] (remove spaces within hard brackets)

I've still to find out if clearing the logs on the TP also clears old entries in /var/log/messages, or if this is done when rebooting the TP...

I think I downloaded a recommended app which limits logging. Any idea what its called so I can uninstall it?

edit: found it - muffle system logging. Shall I remove it?

JCPDX: Thanks for joining in on this; I've been trying both wifi sleep modes to check if that made any difference - but it does not.
Edit - where did that post go??

A[L]C: I pulled the log from my TP after doctoring to a clean WebOS 3.0.2, and honestly, I don't know if the muffling patch has any impact on /var/log/messages.

If I were you, I'd try to download the /var/log/messages from the TP as it is - if there are few/no new entries in the /var/log/messages, then I'd think about uninstalling it.

-but do note that it might be difficult reinstalling it afterwards, since there may be issues installing apps/patches from the WOSQI - I for one have not yet succeded in installing Internalz pro using WOSQI.

Personally, I think this is a hardware failure.

balducci: Thanks for posting - there seems to be a lot of similarities between our logs.

I will be keeping all available appendixes crossed hoping it is not a hardware failure, until proven otherwise (which may well be when the CM7 port is ready)

I don't see any lines mentioning AR6000 or AR6k_wlan, in your log which were some of the lines I suspect are the major errors.

The TP wireless interface is based on the Qualcomm/Atheros 6003 chip, which, it seems, is used widespread in linux, and therefore there have been made quite a few enhancements of the drivers over time.
I found the source for hif.c, in which I found the hifEnableFunc(), which returned an error code in my case, but I have not yet found a definition of the error codes.

Another suspicion I think is worth investigating relates to the wireless extension version number. I have been googling a bit to find out more on this and what I found out was that somehow the kernel(?)/wireless drivers(?) had to be compiled using the exact version number, that can be read from the wireless interface - I will be trying to see if I can get some information out of the TP using the novaterm console - when time permits.

Am I correct in assuming none of these units are stock? These sorts of things happen when too many things get mashed together. This would be similar to adding a new video card to a PC and then the sound goes out or say overlaying too many things in Whiteboard. I would suggest:

    remove all the non-stock apps
    reboot
turn off blue tooth and wi-fi
go into your router's interface and clear the mac ids and any host clients
    reboot your router
    turn on you TP
    enable wi-fi

you could try it without removing the apps first if you wanted to.

@knoer: I did a search through my logs for "AR6" and found nothing.

@redfarm: Which apps would be "non-stock". Since I am starting from a re-imaged TP, I would think everything is "stock". As per resetting/rebooting the router, I am skeptical. The TP can't even find the SSID of any router in the vicinity (even though there are 3 or 4 both at home and at work).

@redfarm: thanks for your suggestions, but I think I/we have tried every possible configuration when it comes to router settings (completely open, broadcast SSID etc.)
    - i even brought mine to work today to test if my TP somehow would prefer the open "guest" wireless network there, as suggested by a user here: HP Touch Pad cannot find Wifi connections - Page 5 - Support Community - that did not work either.
I only installed the patches I believe all other users on this forum has (recommended in a post here) - and after my wifi-woes began I doctored to webOS 3.0.2 to restore "stock" functionality, just in case any downloads were causing this.

@balducci: That's interesting - although right now I can't figure out what that means in terms of troubleshooting my/our problem. You do have kernel info and error entries, so you should have had these, if they occured(?)

What frustrates me with this issue is that my TP worked great for the first week, and then pulled this trick on me overnight - only thing that happened was that I got a Skype message(!) - And the fact that no matter how many doctoring procedures I run the TP through I cannot restore the functionality of the wireless interface, which worked when I first unboxed it.

@knoer, If you send me specific things to look through in the log, I'm happy to pull out some snippets and post them. There is so much log info here, I'm not sure what's relevant and what's not, and I don't want to post something even more humungous than I already have here.

By the way, mine stopped worked when I was using the wireless in a hotel. My TP just decided to suddenly reboot, and when it came back up the WiFi didn't work. I later checked and the hotel wireless was dropping the WiFi on my phone every few minutes. So, initially I thought the WiFi on the TP just got into some bad state. Aside from all the rebooting/reimaging/etc. I also tried draining the power completely in the hope that that might somehow clear any latent state values. But, alas... no.
