We've all gotten some variation of the same TouchPad warranty script; but I was thrown a twist. In order to waive the $59 advanced exchange fee, I'd have to agree to a $225 charge if the technician determined the "defect" resulted from customer abuse. Nice arbitrage play, HP. CSR went on to say that the only real difference in the warranty options was turnaround time.
As much as I'd like to believe there's a clean room filled with Foxconn workers repairing returns in an El Paso industrial complex, I seriously doubt it. Can anyone say for sure that repair/return of an original device ever took place in any forum posting (as opposed to being replaced with a refurb)? If there's no difference in repair and exchange, what's the hurry?
