Why can't all my downloaded apps in the apps menu be arranged alphabetically?
(automatically, whenever a new app is downloaded)

I now have around 60 apps in the app downloads menus and finding a particular
app isn't so easy anymore. (yes, I do delete the apps that I never use )
I did try dividing them up and putting half in the Favorites menu... but that
didn't really make it any easier.

Is there a patch that does this?

    Thanks!

no patch but you can easily sort them manually by long pressing the icon and dragging it around.

manually dragging and sorting 60+ apps is not that easy....

it must seem to me that whoever was in charge of this function(or lack of)
at WebOS didn't pay much thought to it.

Agree. This is a fairly basic requirement - the ability to organize your tools/apps.

Hopefully, with a million new TP owners, enough talented people will download the SDK and start writing us some cool free apps.

I'm only let this one slide because my Touchpad only cost me $84 from HP.com.
If I had paid full price of $499 or even $399, I would probably think otherwise.

If it's any consolation, the placement of the app icons are saved in your palm backup. So even if you got a shinny new TP they would all be organized the way you had them on your last TP.

There is a patch to add tabs. May help with spreading out the apps:
TouchPad "Add Launcher Pages" tweak appears in Preware | The #1 HP webOS, TouchPad, Pre, and Veer Community | PreCentral.net
I'm a man, but I can change, if I have to, I guess.
    Device history: *free feature Phone*x3 -> LG Rumor -> Palm Pre -> HTC Arrive (3days) -> Samsung Nexus S 4G (28 days) -> Samsung Galaxy S II Sprint Epic 4G Touch -> Palm Pre -> Pre 3

Because that would make too much sense! Seriously though, use Just Type.

    second for just type

that's one of the webOS's core advantages.

just type to do everything. That's the beauty of it. Email, IM, web, app, etc.

webOS is built upon chaotic database and just type is THE way to take control of the OS. Another example is the contacts.

it's better when a physical keyboard is present and easy to access, that's why I think pixi is theoretically best device for webOS. It needs no extra effort to use "just type".

oh. Also on the topic. I don't necessarily think alphabetic order is the best, I have two android tablets and two webOS phones, I think there is values in allowing users to decide where an app locates on a launcher page.

I'm not against alphabetic order, just make it an option, instead of replace default behavier would be fine.

Regarding Just Type - When you're first getting used to which Apps you will use regularly it's not always easy to remember their name.

Then there are developers that don't include the correct keywords for FINDING their app with Just Type! My frustration yesterday: the CourseSmart app says CourseSmart on the icon but eTextbooks as the name. Just Type does not find this app by typing CourseSmart (and of course i should only have to type 2 or 3 letters for it to be found!)

I know an App can be found by something other than it's name (otherwise why would Memos come up when I type Notes?).

I agree that the combination of manually arranging plus an option to have it auto-sort would be nice. Plus the extra two tabs via Homebrew have made a huge difference

    Cheers, Clarice

They read the tea leaves and never figured you'd have 60 apps. :-O

I cannot find the Add Launcher Pages in PreWare. I do not find it listed in the available patches and I get no result when I search in PreWare. Is it still available?

is there any way to rename them too? easier to read when each icon only has 1 line. gets a little cluttered when it goes to next line and truncates with "..."

I completely forgot what "Just Type" meant because I changed
it to "Make it so..." 10 minutes after I opened the Touchpad box.

Will try to download the patch tonight...
