I have tested your mkv clip on my Touchpad (OC to 1.5) and it runs smooth. Audio and video is synced. I love how the clip ends with "not for long." lol

As you've previously said, I think it's just a matter of Kalemsoft updating their software so we don't have to rely on specific codecs and containers. If they can make it so it supports multiple ones like VLC, that would be awesome.

My 1080p WMV will just have to be converted for now.

Glad to hear it worked out. I wonder if your .WMV has a really high bit rate or if perhaps Kalem just doesn't play those well yet. With how fast they are updating the program I guess we'll know soon.
  3. #103
Most likely it's a compatibility issue. The WMVs are only listed as 8000 Kbps according to MediaInfo. The clip you provided is 10Mbps.
  4.    #104
    Yep, that sounds logical.

For the record, I've been throwing everything I can at this little program for the last few days, including .FLV files ripped off Youtube and it's been rock solid.

I guess we can just about scratch video playback issues off the immediate TP to fix list

    FWIW--

I used UberKernal at 1.5 to allow me to mount my NAS to the TP, then hacked the jail_pdk.conf file to allow Kalem to see the NAS.

I've had occasional issues with PDK apps deciding they don't want to start, or with Kalem not seeing the NAS directory when other programs can, but when it does work, it works surprisingly well.

Animated shows look insanely good on the TP screen. Live action will occasionally act up, but those same scenes act up both on my gaming rig PC and BluRay players.

If I could just get the player to shuffle all the music in a root-level directory, this would be the perfect app

(oh yeah, and allow me to pause/play/skip tracks from my Pre. I want to leave the TP in the dock in a corner and control the music from the couch.)

Confirmed - just played a 720p mkv with v0.3.7 at 1.5Ghz... Smooooth! (and audio synced)

This is very exciting! Now to get those subtitles working

    Thank you for this!!!

I can say for sure that KS 0.3.4 did NOT work well at all for me. Audio/video sync was way off, and videos were stuttery. This was with F15C kernel @1.7ghz. (BIG ups to UnIx) Installed F4 kernel @1.8ghz, and the 0.3.7 KS beta, and it's PERFECT. Plays anything I throw at it! OP, this is a great post. Thanks for the time and the vids!

I have found KS 0.3.7 does not work well for some .mkv's... It works perfect with most of them, but for some, video is not smooth and audio is not synced. tried with F15C, F4, UberKernel, all the same.

It may not be up there yet because they are awaiting the approval/upload process.

What you can do instead is go to their web page and buy the player via Paypal (if you have an account). Then download and install the 0.3.7 (link below) and enter your email address you used to pay in the Settings->Activation.

Download 0.3.7 here: KalemSoft - Products
    Purchase here: KalemSoft - Store

Note: it may take a few hours for their records to update and the email address to take. Took me about 40 min.

Can anyone with a stock clocked (no overclocking) Touchpad confirm that 0.3.7 plays videos smoothly?

Smoothness patches and other tweaks are okay, just trying to get an idea if overclock is necessary still. That would be the final step to making KalemSoft a must-have application for everyone.

doesn't that mean I'll have to buy three copies
of the same app for my three Touchpads?

I'm not entirely sure about that but it's not uncommon in software sales for each device to require a purchase.

That said, it's possible that you might be able to use the same email address on all three to "activate" or they might offer some sort of bulk/family thing. You might shoot them an email over at KalemSoft as they've been pretty quick to respond for most. Please report back what you find!

oh, they already said three purchases are required, if the app is downloaded/purchased
directly from their website. only one purchased is required from the H-P apps store
if all three Touchpads are on the samw WebOS account. I guess that makes sense
because only the HP apps store can verify that all three Touchpads belong to the same
    person.

Interesting! Kind of stinks you have to wait until it's on the HP store officially but at least you've got that as an option. Thanks for the report back

Hey guys, does the stock player have a limit on the size of the mp4? I have Casino Royale but its a bit over 2 gigs and wont play. Will kalemsoft play it?

I'm not aware of any file size limit on the stock player but I know KalemSoft will play them right up to the 4GB file limit (TouchPad FAT32 OS) and larger if streamed.

Your issue might be something with that particular .MP4 so I don't want to say "for sure" Kalem will play it but it does play larger than 2gb files for sure.
