Changing Browser User Agent?
 

Hey,

Does anyone know how to change the user agent on the Touchpad? Would be nice to get access to websites optimized for the Ipad..

Am I reading this wrong or is the answer currently "no" - I skimmed the Hulu thread and can't see the fix?

It's got a couple of ways to fix it, depending on your skill level...

To be fair, neither that thread nor the ones it links to have clear instructions on making the Touchpad appear as an iPad (or whatever you want).

I'm actually surprised this topic hasn't received more attention. There are quite a few sites/web apps that look great in their tablet specific presentations. There's a number of similar threads (including this one: [url]http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touchpad-tips-information-resources/295085-wanted-enabling-mobile-versions-websites-hp-touchpad.html[/url] ) but they all seem to be fairly quiet.

so now pops up 3 user agent overrides on preware ...for ipad, chrome, firefox ...what would these do for me ...only thing I tried was the ipad one and hulu.com still won't play ...took it off...

comments?

It works for the browser but not Flash. It's hardcoded in Flash.

so what are these spoofs good for ?

Possibly using tablet versions of Google services, or viewing pages that normally get sent as a severely limited mobile/WAP version.

Beating a dead horse with this thread aren't we? Ok, There are many threads about the user agent and a are patches running around to change same. The hulu fix changes both the user agent and the version report for flash, it works at playing Please search the forum for the hulu patch and install that. Keep in mind that it breaks the app catalog and you have to uninstall hulu patch to use the app catalog. This is all well documented if you READ the forums...

true some send as wap version but those usually show a "full version" link... Any disadvantages to spoofing as iPad

You may get mobile only versions of some sites if they don't have an option to switch back to full, at least with the iPad patch. I'm not sure if the others are the full or mobile versions.

Dead horse? The user agent patched just got updated a few days ago. If it was dead it wouldn't get updated anymore.
