edit: the method I posted works but takes installations and some time, ncinerate's method a few posts down should be easier and faster.

--------------------

Someone (not me) already figured out how to get Hulu working again by hexediting your flashplayers identifier from webOS to windows and I can confirm it works.
Touchpad Hulu Block Bypassed - Pastebin.com

You have to install the sdk and a hexedit program if you don't have them, but it works.

Here is a link to installing the SDK, which he tells you to google
https://developer.palm.com/index.php...t=page&id=1661
Make sure you get Virtualbox 3.2, later versions don't work with webos.

He makes the instructions a little more complicated than they need to be though, heres all I did after installing the SDK.

- Run "nova browser" which is already installed by the SDK. Browse to /usr/lib/BrowserServerPlugins/libflashplayer.so, and copy the file to your desktop. Make a second copy as a backup.
- Open the hex editor, select your copy of libflashplayer.so, search for "WEB 10" and change it to "WIN 10", obviously this is the identifier. Save.
- Back in novabrowser, select the browserserverplugins folder, use file > add and select your altered file to automatically replace the original.

Done. If you get permission errors at some point I believe thats what the chmod steps are for.

I have not noticed any side effects and cant imagine there are any, but the change is easily reversible if needed.

Great find! Are you aware of any sites this may cause an issue with? Such as loading of mobile sites?

It should only be identifying to flash objects and not your web browser as a whole, so most mobile sites should be unaffected as they dont use flash.

I have not used any mobile flash sites enough to recognize if there were any small changes, but everything Ive tried seems fine. And again if something causes a problem you can just switch it back, very quickly once you know how.

THIS POST IS MASSIVELY OUTDATED, FOR THE NEWEST 3.0.4 PATCH FOR HULU, GO HERE:

http://forums.precentral.net/3218146-post139.html

BEFORE YOU DO THIS - There is a preware patch in the testing feeds that will do all this for you, and it should hit the normal preware feed soon. I'd recommend you either wait for the patch or go install the testing feeds and install the patch there.

Please remember that this is an advanced fix using a terminal connection to a linux command line. You are doing this at your own risk. It is a simple process, but if you are at all unsure of your ability to follow these instructions -exactly- please do not attempt this unless you want to visit the webOS doctor.

I went ahead and changed this post (thanks Abyssul). I've removed the link to the file - but - Abyssul has given us an even easier method. Here's what you do:

First, ensure you are in DEV MODE. If you don't know how to do this, check my post here:

http://forums.precentral.net/hp-touc...ted-guide.html

Go into webOS quick install on your home pc - you can find it here:

http://forums.precentral.net/canuck-...-v4-2-3-a.html

Run the program, select the TOOLS tab, and pick LINUX COMMANDLINE. Make sure your browser is closed on the touchpad.

You should now be in a terminal at a command line looking at your touchpad .

Now type or copy and paste the following lines into the terminal window. Hit enter after each line:

mount -o remount,rw /

cd /usr/lib/BrowserServerPlugins

cp libflashplayer.so libflashplayer.so.bak

sed -i 's/WEB 10/WIN 10/' libflashplayer.so

reboot

TADA, hulu works.

Want to reverse the process? Simply type (ALL ONE LINE):
cp /usr/lib/BrowserServerPlugins/libflashplayer.so.bak /usr/lib/BrowserServerPlugins/libflashplayer.so

And if Android is so "open", then why hasn't the Android community figured out how to do this for Android after all this time?

Great job guys, and thank you!

Actually, technically, they have. Yesterday I was posting in another thread that we might be able to get Hulu working by using the Android trick posted back in june:

xda-developers - View Single Post - Working hulu

In fact, they did it in the exact same way we are. I had an android version of this file already sitting here that could run Hulu and was trying to figure out the location of the file on my touchpad (thinking it might just be a drop-in fix, I was going to compare the two by hex editor to make sure).

Anyway, someone anonymous posted the info as to where the flash file was and what to edit before I could get to it, and from there it was EZsauce .

Thanks to whoever you are, you god among geeks .

This can't be a patch, but instead a script if someone knowingly enough can package it up. ncinerate, would you mind replacing the instructions or removing the libflashplayer.so link so you don't offend Palm/HP. We like to keep a high standard for software licenses.

Entering this command into terminal will do that easier:

Code:
sed -i 's/WEB 10/WIN 10/' libflashplayer.so

Thanks.
Does this have to be redone with every software update?

If the flashplayer binary is modified, yes.

I was under the impression it wouldn't be a problem to post a link up to the file. It's a file everyone already has with a small edit. If it's an issue I'll go ahead and remove the link.

It's ok to download files from Palm and personally modify them, but it becoming infringing when you share those files (modified or not). That's why we rely on patches.

why spoof windows?

It's Linux, so rather than faking it, i suggest changing the Flash UA keyword to LNX instead. It's totally honest and we can feel proud of our (underlying) OS!

Does LNX work?
