Has anyone else gotten an email recently (2011/08/18) from HP entitled "HP Touchpad. New price starting at just $399"

HP Business Promotions - HP Touchpad. New price starting at just $399

Why are they continuing to push the product?

Shows you that the decision was made quickly and not yet communicated to staff. Plans for these promotion emails, commercials etc were done a while ago and it will take some time to communicate to all the different departments and wind the machinery down.

Staff in the business unit found out with the rest of us when the press Release hit:

Almost everyone at HP found out about the death of the TouchPad and Pre hardware as the public did, in the press release. Only the top executives knew anything about this decision and even senior staff as high as Ari Jaaksi, the Vice President of webOS software, didn’t know about the shuttering of hardware before it happened.

I like how you click the 32 GB link and it shows a white TouchPad with 64 GB can be ordered

Thanks for the link. All signs are that the decision was made not only stealthily, but fairly quickly. This doesn't have the feel of something decided months ago, which makes it all the more bizarre.

It was pretty striking in the Twitterverse yesterday how even webOS haters were so blindsided that they posted more of the "Wait, what?!" sort of tweet instead of the usual snark about the user base.

In a pretty jaded world, it's good to know that the way HP did this still has the capacity to shock.
