0 Day Left to show your support!
Ending Saturday, Sept 3rd
Thank You All !!!
You're the best!!
I believe we all agree: WebOS Internals is an amazing group!
They have done so much to make our phones fast and functional, and now they are working their magic on the HP TouchPads. They are the geniuses behind PreWare, Uberkernel and many of our favorite homebrew projects. Not everyone realizes that they do this on their own time, along with day jobs and family. Not only donating their time, but they have built an architecture with Preware that is secure and scalable enough to host/deliver stuff created by the rest of the homebrewers and theme builders.
Hosting those servers and buying phones and tablets dedicated to development isn’t cheap. They truly need the support and donations of the users who benefit from their amazing efforts.
You often see posts asking: “will Preware work with <insert OS version here>?”, or “will we be able to overclock our current phones with the new OS version?”, “how long will we have to wait for preware/uberkernal/favorite patch”, and now "when can we do (or when will we have) this stuff for the TouchPad?". YOU can a big difference in the answers! The WebOS Internals team needs to buy hardware for this effort – including hardware for the legendary Jason of Canuck Coding. Currently, the development team needs to buy a combination of new 15 new devices such as Pre3's and TouchPads, (+ newer devices as they are released).
The sooner they have the equipment, the faster they can bring all of the wonderful webOS-Internals magic to the newest HP hardware for everyone to enjoy!
PreCentral members have launched a “telethon (webathon)” for the next few weeks to raise the estimated $8,000 needed to purchase necessary hardware for development. No donation is too small. We need a bunch of $5 and $10 donations - and we need some benefactors to kick in bigger chunks.
- Please donate through the PayPal link below
- Please post your donation in this thread if you don't mind. It's the only way we can count it in the running total.
- Any members donating over $30 total will receive the HB Supporter badge!
NOTE: The supporter badges will be given out after the event ends. It will take us some time to get them in place - so please be patient.
Donations over $30 =
Donations over $75 =
I have been keeping a running total, and a running list of donors. Hopefully we can come up with a special badge for those who donate over $75 to the cause!
This webOS community is legendary for how we come together to support webOS. Think of the “votes” we always win. Or the way members jump in to help each other with technical questions. Last time we had a “webathon” we raised almost $9,000 for these guys! The support from PreCentral members has been amazing - lets show them again just how much we appreciate their efforts!!
A note from Rod Whitby, WebOS-Internals
Ready...Set.... Donate!WebOS Internals depends upon the generosity of the community for funding the development, operation and maintenance of the Preware homebrew ecosystem and the many homebrew packages developed by our team.
Donations to WebOS Internals are used to pay for server hardware (HP helped significantly with that, but we have more than one server), replacement server parts, domain and hosting costs (OSUOSL helps a great deal with that), and other project expenses.
The main project expense is devices for our core developers to use for development and testing of the WebOS Internals applications, patches and kernels that you see in Preware.
Some of our developers have been able to obtain TouchPads both before and during recent events. We still need to purchase some more so that we can go further into examining the hardware of the device and looking for things like an internal HDMI port.
We also want to start development of kernels and testing of apps and patches for the Pre 3, and at the moment we need to import them from the UK at a cost of $500 each plus shipping.
WebOS Internals has allocated funds from our previous donation events to assist other significant homebrew developers (such as Jason Robitaille) with devices. We have already allocated funds from this donation drive to purchase a TouchPad and Pre 3 for Jason.
Thanks to all that have donated so far. Our webOS devices work the same today as they did a week ago, and in the homebrew development world it's business as usual.
