I am not sure if this was a 3.0.2 issue or not, but my PDK apps often seem to crash of my TouchPad, often seconds after opening. I notice this with apps like Robotek HD, slice it HD, coloring book hd, image worker, elmos birthday, peekaboo and others. It seems like both high memory and low memory intensive apps have this issue and the only fix is to reboot the device.

here is an example video of the crashes happening: PRE_2011-08-12-211319.mp4 - File Shared from Box.net.

So, if this is happening to you, can you please comment here. Include details if you homebrew (apps, patches, kernels, services, etc) and if you are on 3.0.0 or 3.0.2. Also, let me know what apps you see this happening with.

Finally, once this starts, try opening other PDK apps to see of some don't crash on you.

oh, and I am running stock kernel with just about 7 patches running and the typical slate of homebrew apps (preware, internalz pro, save/restore, etc)

well, I've had it several times. it is not an issue with a specific app. it's right about every PDK app.
Luna restart is enough to get everything back to normal.

I'm running the latest webOS Internals UberKernel.

I've had it a few times when trying to run Four In A Row and Peekaboo on stock and UberKernel. I've just got a few (<5) patches and typical homebrew goodness. A reboot clears it up for the time being.

Yep, I've had this happen once - last night when my daughter said she couldn't start Robotek, so I tried some other games/PDK apps and they started then closed like you saw. I did a restart and the problem went away.

having the exact same issue here:

    3.02 uberkernel
    set to 1.5ghz
    muffled logging
    increased touch sens
    unthrottle dl
    remove drop packet logging

I need to restart to return it to reliably working.

    Apps that crashed:
    Slice It HD
    Robotek HD

    Patches;
    GES
    UberKernal at 1.5ghz
    Muffle System Logging
    Unthrottle Download Manager
Increase Touch Sensitivity and Smoothness 10

Slice it actually closed out on me before I used UberKernal. A restart fixes this issue for me.

I have also had it happen on multiple occasions. Will try and gather more info next time.

The only way I can get Slice It! HD to open is to have no cards opened before playing the game. A reboot for me is not necessary.

i took a screen capture of 'top' when i had this problem.
WebAppMgr took almost 58% of the memory.
    Luna took almost 8%

Happens for me too on Rabotek HD & International Snooker.

    TP is running the following;
    Uberkernel 1.5Ghz
    Advanced Reset Options
    Increase Touch Sensitivity & Smoothness
    Max Blocker
    Muffle System Logging
    Remove Dropped Packet Logging
    EOM Overlord Monitoring
    Increase Touchpad Volume Lite

Takes a restart to fix this (usually)

If you see this, can you check your /var/log/messages file for a message that looks like

    2011-08-16T04:00:11.931306Z [3344] webos-device user.warning LunaSysMgr: {LunaSysMgr}: MemoryMonitor: Monitored native process # 16543 exceeded its memory quota. ProcMem = 73

This was from an internal run on webOS 3.0.2 with a lot of web applications open in other cards. In this run, we saw Robotek HD use 70MB of memory, over twice what it lists for maximum memory in its appinfo.json.

If you have logging turned off with patches, you may not have this output.

We're investigating why WebAppMgr is holding on to so much memory, but it looks like a reboot is a safe way to work around this.

I experienced this issue for the very first time today. Was not doing anything memory intensive.

    Reboot fixed it.

I don't know if your test TouchPads are connected to the production server but App catalog (with pivot) is a memory eater...

Here's one tweak people can try. In the apps that are crashing, edit their appinfo.json files to change the "requiredMemory" value. Try adding 50 to it and rebooting the device. LunaSysMgr is using that value to decide when to kill apps when system memory is low, and we're seeing some app providers setting this too low. For example, Robotek HD has a setting of 70, but we're seeing 100MB of memory usage at time.

I have experienced this last night with Slice it HD. Strangely it happened just after I installed EOM Overlord linux app, though I think it's more coincidence than the app actually causing the crash. I'll try uninstalling some patches when I get home to see if I still have issue.

This has been working great!!!! I set all the requiredMemory to 120 or so and have not had a crash yet!

For those not familiar with how to do this, you can use Internalz Pro (in preware) to go to /media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/applications/[APPID] and edit the appinfo.json file
