its a sad day for me. im doing a secure erase to return my touchpad to best buy. The fact that you cant configure proxy settings and I cant connect to my work wifi was the last draw for me. I will most likely go pick one up and costco and hope that they fix this and at least have 90 more days to play with it. Oh well.. I can still use my launch day Sprint Pre..

Why dont you wait for the OTA update and see if it fixes your issues?

He's probably in the same boat as me. Best Buy has a 14 day return and I'll be returning mine tomorrow too. For me there's just too many little things right now. I know that some of these will be fixed in the first OTA but I really want to wait and see what is fixed in its entirety in the first OTA and perhaps the second.

Ah, I didn't know they only gave you 14 days. That all makes sense now.

I'd like to be able to set a proxy as well. I'm thinking this is something that can be patched.

I'm wondering if accessing the command prompt and exporting an http_proxy environment variable would force the browser to use the proxy. If that's the case, I can see a patch adding some items to the browser menu to set/enable/disable this.

guys... I took mine back to BB sadly as well, thinking Id settle for iPad2 also due to functionality I need now... But as they saw my frustration with the iPad email app and pooie multitasking, etc, and extension me lament about update coming later, they offered me an extension to 30 days for return policy.

    Touchy is still with me

maybe you should ask about this?

I know this might be last ditch and I haven't tested it myself

I am an old school Linux and Unix admin. This is the reason I love my WebOS devices because I love to be able to use them for more than their GUIs.

In most system V and BSD Linux/Unix environments, you can manually set a proxy in a terminal. I DONT know if WebOS will work with this or not but --

If you can get to the console using Preware and run this command
    export http_proxy=http://<user>:<password>@<proxy-server-ip>:<port>
    (or possibly)
    set http_proxy=http://<user>:<password>@<proxy-server-ip>:<port>

... fill in those blanks, if you restart Luna, it may inherit that and filter http through that proxy. I know it seems like it might be a lot of work, but you would only need to do it once per reboot.

    Hopefully it helps?

thats it.. Preware stuff was starting to roll out but I just wasn't using the TP as much as I thought I would and the proxy thing royally ****ed me off today. The hardest part was to get the login/password and then I was so let down. I will most likely pick one up at costco in a week or so because of their 90 day policy just because I have a trip coming up that I wanted to use it on. Its not a money thing either.. If HP is really targeting enterprise then they will fix this or acknowledge it. I don't understand what HP is doing anyway saying there target market is large enterprise corporations and they do advertising towards consumers and they don't address document editing or proxy issues. HP is dropping the ball.. its sad...

That's what I said =P, just not with full detail. Haven't tried it yet, and don't have my TP with me (I know, shame on me).

Just so you know I believe costco is now only 45 days on electronics (or something like that). Jay had posted it a few weeks back.
I love physical keyboards... but there is two devices that would make me consider a slab, one is something running a full version of Open webOS. The other is an iPhone!!!! HA HA just kidding (about the iPhone that is)...

it says 90 days on the "shipping/terms" tab on the touchpad page on their website..

THE RETURN POLICY FOR TELEVISIONS, PROJECTORS, COMPUTERS, CAMERAS, CAMCORDERS, IPODS / MP3S, AND CELLULAR PHONES IS 90 DAYS FROM DATE OF PURCHASE.

Maybe it's different online and in store, just trying to give a heads up since he was speaking on the knowledge of knowing an in store employee.

Nevermind I got that confused with another thread my bad.... it was BB that has 45 days for their silver rewards members.... and costco went from return whenever to 90 days.

Sorry, I crossed the 2 up, you are correct sir.

Unfortunately, if the OTA patch doesn't come by the 25th and/or doesn't fix at least one of the HTTP proxy issue or Quick Office editing, I just can't use the TP where/when I need to. I really, really like it. I love a lot about it. The gap just isn't worth it, yet. $600 isn't in the "petty cash" jar.

That said, I'm really, really hoping the OTA update rocks on toast.
