I know there are a lot of posts about that but I can't find the answers i'm looking for:

I have a Palm Pre (minus) running WebOS 1.4.5 and i will be buying the TouchPad when it will be release in Canada (July 15th).
So I want to know what exactly will happen with my Palm Profile? What will be transfer to my TouchPad? Will there be some stuff that will be erease on my phone? Does SMS on my phone will be transfer on my TP?

And what after the log in? If example I buy an app, write a note, receive an e-mail or add something on the calendar on my Pre, will it automatically appear on my TouchPad too?

Thanks for helping me with those questions

Nothing happens, another device is just listed as acetive on the profile. This works for a phone a tablet, but not 2 phones.

Most apps will transfer, if they have been approved to run on the TouchPad. Some apps don't move over though, but most do. These will run in a emulation mode.

Nothing on the phone will erase. If you have a stock Pre (not running webOS 2.X), then SMS will not forward, but calls do. Also, any saved SMS will not transfer unless you use a utility lie Save/Restore.

Anything that uses Synergy is synced. As for app buying, I am not sure, but going by all the apps that moved over and are on both my phone and TP, I am assuming yes.

Ok I am in the same exact situation. I have a pre- 1.4.5 and a touchpad. What happens when you activate you touchapd with your palm profile all the applications and accounts gets transferred/mirrored to the touchpad. I do not believe that memos do. There is a caveat with the applications. If a developer has put restrictions (such as it can only be on one device) on the application then it will not download itself onto the touchpad. One example of this is voogle.I purchased voogle on my phone and that application is not available for the touchpad. I would say most of my apps did transfer themselves to the touchpad. Now as for the sms forwarding that feature is going to be part of webos 2.2 which is not coming to the pre-. So I can tell you for sure the SMS part DOES NOT work. Now as for the phone part yes that works just fine with the pre- 1.4.5. I also heard it works with not webos phones. I have not tested this myself but that is what I have read.

Nothing will erase on your phone. I would say that it pretty much clones your accounts and applications onto the touchpad.

If you buy an app depending on the restrictions like I stated before it might not be available for download on your touchpad. I have not tested downloading let say a free app on my phone and it magically appearing on the touchpad.

As for emails and calendar events. They all should sync together. Remember that the information is coming from the cloud so anything that is synced back should appear on both devices as long as the account is on both devices.

If you would like any other information please feel free to ask.

Text messages and Call Log will transfer to the Touchpad as long as you have a profile that is being used with webOS 2.x.x. It does not matter whether the phone itself is a Pre-, Pre+ or Pre2. It is the webOS version that matters. I personally have a Pre+ with webOS 2.1.0 and all my Text Messages, Call Log and Memos transferred over to the Touchpad. Basically all that is backed up to your profile gets transferred and since webOS 1.4.5 does not backup Text messages and the Call Log they do not gewt transferred if you use a profile that is on webOS 1.4.5
    Pre3 (AT&T meta-doctored to ROW) webOS 2.2.4 build 3175
    TouchPad WiFi (32GB) - webOS 3.0.5 build 86
App Catalog (US) - Vodafone (India)

    Treo 180 > 270 > 600 > 650 > 680 > Pre+ > Pre2 > Pre+ > Pre3 & tPad

I have a Palm Pre with WebOS 2.1. Everything happened pretty much as described; however, I did get the saved SMS files from my Pre (but no new ones).

I have a Pre+ with 1.4.5. Sms did not copy over. Memos did.

If you Doctored and got the phone running again, but your apps don't download, you may want to contact HP support.

Thanks. I did that. The tier 1 support couldn't help. So a specialist will call me back tomorrow. This should be logged as an issue...multiple devices using the same shared profile.

Good, I am glad you got in touch with them. Since this is what appears to me as a Profile issue, this forum probably wouldn't be able to help much. Let us know what you hear from the HP reps tomorrow.

Sure thing Rob. I will report back one way or the other so the others don't have to go thru the same hassles. This is basic stuff...again paml/hp coming up short on addressing basic stuff prior to launch...

    Hi

Is it all the apps, or just some of them? Were some of them homebrew? It seems that they don't get restored. Like when I recently MD'd my pre2 to 2.1.0

No all 3rd party apps from the palm catalog didn't restore. So it is not app specific.

<<mod delete>> Lots of users share multiple devices on the same profile. The two different devices keep separate backups - they don't share data. Before we all hit the panic button, how about seeing what HP says. It's probably worth mentioning, there were occasional issues like this before the TouchPad came out.

I called up HP butler service and spoke to a specialist. She couldn't help. HP engineers need more time to investigate. They said they would call me back. Not keeping much hope. They didn't call me today as promised yesterday. Anyway, be careful with this one. I would try to use a diff profile for HP touchpad to avoid this kind of crap. amazing such stuff was not extensively tested...Will keep people posted.

What a mess. Sorry that happened. I guess I got lucky with my Pre Profile, everything worked for me.

Why are you assuming things "basic stuff" and paml/HP coming up short on addressing basic stuff"? This is not a common occurrence, and is like not related to the two copies of the backups.

The backup of the HP data is not shared with the backup of the Pre data.
