I made a "fat fingers" edition for those of you south of the canadian border that might have had their combos super sized one too many times. :P I will put it in the Preware feeds soon. I have very skinny muscley fingers from too many beaver fights and canoe trips so I cant tell the difference. Please let me know if its better. Makes tap radius 15px, not 8. It's all in the logging. Stupid stupid part of webOS! The one part I hate. Everytime you disable it your device speeds up ridiculous amounts.
My pixi is useless until you disable logging. |

Are there any drawbacks to the changes in these patches.. Is there anything you give up? Any reason NOT to make these changes? Just wondering, and it just makes sense to ask, thanks!

there are always drawbacks -- for example you might find it harder to set down your speedier talet ca-chow

I'm a noob cake when it comes to WebOS usage, let alone the development side (into which I will be diving as well) and this comment intrigues me. Can you elaborate regarding the logging issue? I know not of what you speak.

I removed the previous increased sensitivity patch and replaced it with the fat finger version of this patch and works much better, especially when moving the cursor, thanks once again rmausser!

Apparently, webOS devices log ridiculous amounts of data, about everything you do on the phone, just in case something goes wrong and you have to send the data to support. The downside to this is that it costs substantial system resources and rendered my pixi unusable.

Okay, in the above post, I can see the patch, download the patch and copy the url of the patch into preware. But I don't seem to be able to actually install the patch !? Preware just spins the little ball. What am I doing wrong? EDIT: Oh! Install the excellent Internalz Pro! The Patch for fat fingers helps lots! Thanks! Very nice patch. Any chance you could release a version that is a compromise, ie, 12px tap radius? Thanks. |

I'm glad people like the logging patches as they do make a significant difference. The following is what I would recommend to have installed/configured for webOS 3.x
1) Start the Phone app on the TouchPad, dial ##LOGS#, clear logs and set to minimal logging. 2) Fire up Preware, navigate to Available Other > All and install EOM Overlord Monitoring. This kills the processes that uploads log files to Palm. This also saves on unnecessary bandwidth being consumed without your knowledge. 3) Patches * Make It So (you *NEED* this patch =D ) * Muffle System Logging * Remove Dropped Packet Logging * Unset CFQ IO Scheduler * Unthrottle Download Manager * Quiet powerd Messages * Faster Card Animations HYPER Version * Buttah (formerly known as the Increase Touch Sensitivity And Smoothness 10 patch) * Remove Tap Ripple 4) For extra points, also install the following patches * Max Blocker (ad and analytics cookies blocker) * Private Browsing 5) Lastly, browse to OpenSearch Entries and add a secure search engine to use instead.

Myself and my coworker both added the patches recommended in the original post. The difference is uncanny. I am very impressed with how my Touchpad is running! Everything is more responsive and zippier - online and offline. I was also impressed on how Flash content on the web (see: YouTube) seems to have been turbocharged now that logging is removed.
I will add codecrumb's recommendations after work today and see how that goes. I have two questions for the experienced Precentral members. When the OTA is released later by HP this month or when certain large apps are updated, do we need to remove these patches/preware in order to update properly? Is a new version of QuickWebOS Install required each time the software is updated through OTA? Thanks again for everything. I love my HP Touchpad and these updates were just what she needed. |

dont forget jstop. It took my touchpad memory usage from 150 Mb down to 80 Mb.
if you set it to run in the background every 5 minutes it helps a lot, and although it still runs on the small screen you very rarely have to run it. |
