I have two wifi routers. A Linksys 610n (Mixed Mode 2.4ghz) and a Netgear 3700 (N only 5ghz) I'm using WPA2-PSK [AES] on both. While I don't seem to have a problem with a dropped connection once I'm connected, when I'm using one, I can't find and switch to the other one very often without disabling and then re-enabling wifi. It's bothersome, but not insurmountable.

I definitely think there is something in the wireless implementation that is just not right yet.

Put me in this camp as well. I keep losing my connection. It only stays on-line for a few minutes. Then I turn WiFi off and on and everything works fine for a few more minutes. This is making my TP almost unusable. D-Link DIR-655, N and G enabled and WPA2.

It seems to be happening to me as well. Appears that when the system is charging or locked. So far I just turn off WiFi then back on again. I have a Linksys E1000 router running wpa2.

cheers....will a better router fix it or is more a hardware problem for the touchpad.

I have the exact same scenario .. and it happens on 2 diiferent TP .. I'm assuming it may be some Wi-FI software bug. It also happens on a completely different network at my work. I've opened up a trouble ticket with HP and they are sending me a box in which to return the one unit . I'll report back when I get it back form repair.

I cant seem to connect to my works wifi (basic wpa-2 security). I keep getting a "association failed" error message.

also goto WiFi-Settings and drop down the top/left menu or swipe it down, select Sleep Settings and tell it to NEVER sleep/Always On, ive had it hiccup when ive had the device sleeping for days on end without proper power offs and sometimes the wifi went spaz after several sleep periods.

Doesnt do anything of the sort now i told it to stay on, either that or a previous update fixed it, either way its long gone.

I changed WPA2 to WPA on my Dlink DIR-655 and all is well now !!!.

I have only been able to connect at home. I have wireless linksys at home. As soon as I leave my house, my TP recognizes other wi-fi networks, but won't connect to any of them. I ran diagnostics and it came back with a "warning" Wi-Fi 1000 code.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I have a TP 16GB tablet. As with many of you I was having issues with the WiFi connection dropping, randomly. My router is the D-Link DIR-655 a N router running in mixed mode (N and G). It is an outstanding router and a real work horse for me. I have six WiFi devices and all but one has ever had an issue maintaining their connection to the router. That one being the TP.

Early yesterday, I decided to revert back to my old D-Link 634M G router. I pulled the DIR- 655 out of service and replaced it with the 634M G router. All my devices connected without an issue, including the TP. The TP has now been running for over 24 hours and has yet to drop the connection. I am broadcasting in WPA-PSK on channel 5 with DHCP server enabled.
Transmit power 100%, Beacon Interval 100, RTS Threshold 2346 and DTIM Interval of 1. I don't know if any of this helps in any way, but there it is if it helps.

If the TP starts to drop its connection again, I will report back.

Now I don't know what to do. The D-Link-655 is a Gigabit router and I use it wired to my PC for the 1000 thru put speed. I am wondering if there is a way to run two routers. The 655 for all but the TP and the 634 exclusively for the TP. I guess its Google time.

I hope this helps someone figure out why this works, but the newer 655 router does not.

    Regards.

Make sure if you are using wpa2 your passphrase needs to be at least 8 characters and only ascii. 0 to 9 and A to Z(upper or lowercase - just do the same at router and TP). Also as it rotates keys every hour or less, you need to make sure all time clocks match.

I would recommend at least 13 characters as it lowers the cpu load required to maintain encryption keys.

Is there no way to connect away from home on an open or unsecure Wi-Fi network?
That's probably a dumb question or it at least looked dumb after I typed it. And I've asked dumber questions before

Jumped into wireless router (Netgear WNR3500) settings. Security was set to WPA2. Changed security to WPA.

After TP reconnected, streaming is now working fine.
thanks that could be the problem with flash buffering and WiFi sometimes disconnecting when watching long flash high data videos, init is a WiFi bug then there will be a fix from someone hopefully.

My husband found this in the Touchpad's logs and asked me to post this. I am experiencing the same intermittent wifi issues. I have no clue what this means but I was told it has to do with the wifi module and it might be important.

Why is that? Mine are not. I have mixed letters, numbers and symbols.

Looking for help! My TP wifi stopped working a couple days ago, shows connected, but when I tried to update email, view the HP apps catalog, I'd get an error message "Internet connection required." So, I attempted to do a soft reset...actually did a hard reset, so now my TP back to the beginning, as if I'd just taken it out of the box. Asked me what language (English) country (US) etc. Then it goes to Wifi set up. I choose my wifi account, put in the password. It appears to show a connection with "tap to configure IP address." Still acts as if I'm not connected, can't accept "HP Terms and Conditions" can't "Continue" Question for you in the forum...what have I done? and what should I do? Thanks!

I tested my touchpad with a WRT54GL and it worked fine. I'm running Tomato on my, not the stock Linksys firmware. I now use an E3000 as my primary router, also with Tomato. Using the settings recommended here helped stop those zombie connections from occurring.

I am having the same issue, both with my home router and at my office. I am surprised that all of the solutions appear to be in correcting settings with the router, instead of the TP. I am able to make these changes at home and the office, but probably not at a hotel, starbucks , airport, etc. I have used my wife's iPad and have never had this kind of issue. Trying to book a flight on delta is impossible. Very frustrating. Should have spent the extra $$ on the iPad or xoom!!

I've submitted a simple patch to Preware to roll back the PmWiFiDhclient.conf back to version 3.0.2.
I've done the same for the Pre 3 version (2.2.4 to 2.2.3) and it seems to improve WiFi performance for some people, certainly not for all.
For some reason, HP updated this file in the last firmware versions. It had been the same ever since 1.4.5.
The TouchPad patch was tested by one user and it did improve things for him.
    But like I said, YMMV.

It's easy to test and remove if it doesn't help, before resorting to other more difficult options.
