thats two not positive reviews, NYT and WSJ.

common complains: apps (netflix mentioned in both reviews), battery, sluggish, hardwares

Yeah getting somewhat trashed in the WSJ(I do think he saw some promise) does not bode well for selling to enterprise.

All we are going to hear is not better than the iPad 2. Waiting for one that says

ipad2>TouchPad>iPad>everything else

Don't keep me waiting

Yeah but that's not a surprise. While some people will like the OS better, the apps, functions(camera app, video out), and apps will keep them away even if they are intrigued.

haha agreed.

didn't we all sorta expect this to be the #2 tablet?

I think these reviewers should really mention that, its not just all iPad 2.

WSJ isn't a scathing review by any means, but this section made me shake my head:

Quote:
Glitches

I also ran into plenty of bugs in my tests, even though H-P said I was testing a production unit. For instance, on various occasions, the email app failed to display the contents of messages, the photos app failed to display pictures, and the game "Angry Birds" crashed repeatedly. All of these problems required a reboot of the device to resolve.

In addition, I found the TouchPad grew sluggish the more I used it. Again, a reboot was needed to restore normal speed. H-P acknowledges most of these problems and says it is already working on a webOS update, to be delivered wirelessly in three to six weeks that will fix nearly all of them.

laptop mag review is here HP TouchPad webOS Tablet Review

2.5/5 star, jesus

main point, sluggish system, battery only last 7 hrs ( they pointed out their test shows 11hr for iPad2, 8.2 hr for galaxy tab)

Quote:
The reason this story doesn't have a happy ending (at least not yet) is because the TouchPad is pretty sluggish for a device that's powered by a dual-core processor. The slow and schizophrenic accelerometer alone gives us pause. The TouchPad is also heavier, thicker, and more smudge-prone than class-leading designs such as the iPad 2 and the Galaxy Tab 10.1. And, of course, HP still has a lot of catching up to do on the app front. Just like Google, HP will likely work out many of thie kinks with its first over-the-air update--at which time we'll revisit our rating--but right now the TouchPad is a tough sell.

Why send units out for review when Quickoffice, Facebook and the Skype apps are not included?

Okay, in fairness, some of the other reviewers did have the additional apps. Still, first impressions are decidedly mixed. HP realy has its work cut out to overcome these objections quickly. I'll still buy a TouchPad, but I'm already a loyal user.

Doesn't have an Apple logo. It's going to be trashed.

In seriousness, I wonder if these reviewers are holding HP to a different standard than Apple. They keep talking about all these great features that iOS misses and then deducts points for HP not going far enough with them. The iPad 2 got a 10/10 rating on Engadget DESPITE its OS being feature poor.

Summary from laptop mag, also says tablet is sluggish similar to wsj review. They say music store will be run by third party, is this Amazon?

http://www.laptopmag.com/review/tabl...ad.aspx?page=4
"This is going to sound like a broken record, but the TouchPad is yet another tablet that feels unfinished. The interface is more elegant and intuitive than what you'll find on Android Honeycomb tablets, and we appreciate the time-saving features such as Just Type. The TouchPad also produces louder audio than any other slate we've tested. Last but not least, HP deserves credit for spicing up the app shopping experience and for leveraging webOS-powered phones to tell a better-together story.

These reviews are troubling considering HP really needs this to be a home run.

Engadget review.
They complain about the hardware thickness etc and the lack of apps but if it was $100 cheaper and got some more apps they would see it as more valuable.

Tone seems disrespectful, I like the other reviews better, at least Pogue tried to be poetic when he intimated that HP hardware was last year's design.

I did not include a link to engadget, you can find it on the front page of their site.

No, in order to come in second behind the iPad and above Android, they really only need a single. Samsung would not be in talks to license webOS if their Android Tablet was selling gengbusters and Samsung is considered the leader amongst Android Tablets.

That HuffPo, err, I mean Engadget for you. Put an Apple logo on it and it was handcrafted by angels. It has the same dimensions as the iPad and is thinner than almost EVERY Android tablet. Bulky hardware? Really?
