I'm just pointing out a few more examples of devices stuck on 1.4.5. 1.4.5. devices aren't limited to US and Canada.

....like $50 bucks off the most expensive model of a tablet that won't be on the network I use anyways.

    Woo

Did they have to do this? No. But its not all benevolent on their part. They're not doing it out of the kindness of their heart. They lied to their customers, boldly and blatantly, which ended up just being a series of BS they peddled out to them. The original "making it right comment" and this is nothing but business, an attempt to smooth over the Customers that are the only ones that are likely to be giving them ANY word of mouth what so ever as they launch this new thing.

Its just a horribly stupid method of attempting to smooth it over.
I agree and disagree: I have a hunch that the pre-order numbers are far below what they hoped and are trying to drive up the numbers from the launch weekend. Hey, they've fooled enough of us before to make it worth taking a shot!

Yeah, I wonder if BB will let me get a 32GB instead of the 16 I preordered today. I didn't think the extra 16gb was worth $100, but $50, sure thing.

Thats not HP's fault. It's the fault of the CRTC which allows the cell phone companies to bend us over and rape us. We pay higher than almost any other country in the world. I think we need to fire the CRTC. They are worthless. Canadian content, my ***. They are just a bunch of greedy *******s.

Guys, keep those comments flowing to Palm's blog post. They're getting flooded right now.

Would a video of me logging in to my Palm Profile and showing that there is still a Sprint Pre activated on it be served as proof? I don't have by broken Pre- any more.

Wishful thinking, there might be more when the Pre 3 launches?

PS: for those who are unhappy with this "making things right plan" (if it indeed is) as well, go post in their comments section of the blog post.
It clearly mentions the Pre, Pixi, Pre Plus and Pixi Plus as the eligible phones in the email I got. It does not mention the Pre 2. There's simply no other way to take this other than it being their "making it right" attempt.

I really don't think you're thinking this one through. I suspect they will have more people that have already decided to buy take advantage, than they have people that were undecided take the plunge because of this. In other words, most of the money they're loosing was already on the table.

How did they fool you? I mean, I can understand that you believed you were getting updated, but how did that affect you? What decision did you make that changed what you were doing or not doing?

Of course they will. Just call them up, and change the order.

What's with all this entitlement attitude on here?

Well looks like I will be getting the 32GB TouchPad with a Free Accessory. Thanks HP for great gift from your's truely. I for one am happy with this and think we all just need to settle down and realise that this isn't the Hate Forums. Its Pre Central were we all have a passion for all things digital (especailly WebOS!!!).

    Thanks you HP,

I think this blows if you aren't interested in a pad...and I'm not. Most of us early adopters just need a phone as the ones we have are falling apart. This $50 deal may be good for the minority and I'm happy for you. While I applaud Toni's enthusiasm I don't expect a free phone...that doesn't mean I don't expect something....phone related. And maybe they're still planning on doing something in that regard. Who knows, they don't keep us in the loop.

And what's with your corporate apologist attitude?

Like I said I'm not asking for a free phone or anything, and as I mentioned before if this discount, even if it's less but it's on a phone I would be fine with it. It's just that this way of making it right (and like I said I don't even know if this really is but rather evident it is), isn't right for most. A tablet and a phone isn't even the same thing.

It's called voicing out an opinion on a poor marketing move.

A)Corporations are not like socialist governments; they don't owe you anything and they aren't obligated to give you stuff.

    B) They never called this $50 deal the fulfillment of the "making it right" comment in Feb. Greedy interpretations did.

    C) Automatically assuming this is the "making it right" fulfillment, and getting all negative about a $50 offer THEY DIDN'T HAVE TO DO, is just pretty classless.

Like I said I'm not asking for a free phone or anything
    Oh?

Let's pretend for a moment that this IS the "making it right" fulfillment, even though there is no evidence. The majority of people that comment was meant for are Sprint users. Even MASSIVE discount (or free) phone for another carrier is still not a good deal for many Sprint users - as they will be shafted in the much higher rates.

At least with this, people have the CHOICE and OPPORTUNITY to get something completely off contract if they want for a bit cheaper.

As a current Sprint Pre- 6/9/2009 user, I'm grateful for this $50 discount. If they offer me more discounts in the future then cool - but I don't expect it.

It's called voicing out an opinion on a poor marketing move.
I am quite certain that the only poor marketing move HP feels they have made by now is making the "making it right" statement in the first place; it's obvious by now that such a statement will only end up upsetting people no matter what they do.

+1. People are going nuts because this rebate doesnt apply to the 16GB model. BUT, to me, I can now afford a 32GB (which is better, lets face it) because it only costs $50 more.

the bolded part is not true. if you have a reward zone card and used it on your cash purchase, they can still find your receipt.

    Not for me thanks.

I'm not willing to spend an additional $650.00 ($620 + 13% sales tax - $50) on top of the $200 I spent on my Palm Pre to be an early adopter again with the Touchpad.

I'll keep an eye on how WebOS progresses in the coming years regarding developer support and will jump back on the bandwagon if it becomes mainstream.

In the meantime I will purchase the $400 ePad by Asus and take a gamble on the Android OS. $450 (with taxes) is a lot easier to digest than $650.

    B) Yes, and I mentioned it in a few previous posts. I guess you're too busy defending HP and missed a few of my previous alternative interpretations of this.

    C) Then I really hope you don't run a company. Was the Soup Kitchen your idea? There's also a side of business calls customer satisfaction, which keeps business sustainable. Clearly a lot aren't.

Yes, I agree it was a stupid post there, I posted that without thinking really. Like I said read my other posts that came before.

If you're grateful, than that's your opinion, doesn't mean others have to accept it, nor give you the right to label others. Your contract is over, you can do whatever you want, even switch carriers. For us on Bell we're still stuck on a contract for at least another year, buying another phone isn't really even an option.

I am quite certain that the only poor marketing move HP feels they have made by now is making the "making it right" statement in the first place; it's obvious by now that such a statement will only end up upsetting people no matter what they do.
Fair enough, but what they are proposing as damage control right now isn't quite working, and that's the point I'm trying to make.
