yeah, if the ipad better serves her needs, she might as well get one.

If you are tech savvy, and she only wants the device for movies, and is OK with a slightly smaller, but still very nice, screen, the Nook Color is an option. Convert her iTunes movies for her, and sideload Netflix (you will have to root it).

Not the easiest option, but it is a cheaper option.

There has been no solid rumor of a delay for Netflix. It's just assumed it wont' be at launch because we haven't seen or heard of it. It's assumed they would be bragging about it by now if it was a launch app.

Get an internet connected TV for Netflix or connect through a Wii. That way you can watch Netflix and surf on your tablet at the same time.

She has a nook color, a ipod toutch and an evo4g for her use- and every TV in the house has a netflix device- 2 PS3's - Main and Loft , Enabled Bluray player in master bedroom and a wii in the babies room.

Can you root the NookColor and just toss in the netflix app w/o disrupting the rest of the nook droid os? because the nook app, according to her does not play/see her mag supscriptions or full color/sound childrens books- and thats the reason why I havent turned her nook into a tablet yet :-)

She wants something that she can lay in bed or on the couch and watch herself and easaly pickup/set down for the baby- also she has to have something on while she goes to bed- I cant stand it :-)

She does like the stero speakers on the TouchPad :-) So thats good lol!

The nook color actually boots from the SD card first, so you can install a separate OS (like Honeycomb) on card. Then you run your rooted OS off of that, and just pull that card any time you want the standard OS to boot instead.

You can load “root” onto an SD card so that the Nook color only loads to your rooted version when the SD card is installed (and then rebooted.) This is the easiest way to “have your cake and eat it too.” -Edit- What he said ^^

That said, it sounds like an ipad would work best for her. I too hate itunes like the plague, but if she chooses to use it even before she has an ipad, it sounds like that would be the logical choice. (Although I’m amazed that the mods haven’t irrationally closed this thread yet with bellicose hollering that we’re all a bunch of apple disciples spreading hate and discord…)

I got my wife an iPad2. It's a wonderful device and the apps are stunning! NetFlix works perfectly out of the box. She loves it.

I'm waiting to see how TouchPad looks and feels. Honestly, now that I have seen the iPad in action, it's hard to imagine the TouchPad gaining any market share. '

But, I'm an old Palm Boy, so I'll hold out my hopes! I will say, that webOS has some great advantages -- especially the card view. But my wife, who could care less about operating systems, well...could care less.

Like it or not, apps make the deal. If TouchPad doesn't have the apps that people want (or create the desire for new apps), then what's the point? She has downloaded a weather app and a FoxNews app that are absolutely stunning in how they function on the iPad.

Try out Bing app for iPad. It's really well done piece of app.

For videos, I use the Splash Remote app on my Pre2. Using it, I can pull up the screen on my PC and stream Netflix or Boxee right to my Pre2. It's pretty slick. Not the best solution, but a working solution!

She might be happier if she was able to sleep without having the noise on to lull her to sleep, also without needing an entertainment device in every room.

Might be cheaper to find out what problem she is trying to fix by having ubiquitous technology 'always on' and to find a sleep specialist or someone in that type of field to lend some help. Much as HP and Apple and other tech companies would like us to solve everything by buying more and never turning it off, its not always the happiest or cheap solution for the parents and the kids too.

What happened to those days when we found out the weather by looking out our windows? A leafy green tree dappled by the sun stands outside mine, starlings chirping, the rumble of cars going by.

And FoxNews? Not the most compelling advertisement for any tablet.

(Sorry, couldn't resist when I saw those 2 choices.)

I like to go to sleep with something playing in the background too, preferably something I've seen a million times and do not have to pay attention to the plot. It used to be The Mummy or the 5th Element. Then I was on a Princess Bride and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes kick. Now it's Batman Forever. You trying to say I have issues??? LOL... Besides, a tablet device with a set of headphones so she can watch one thing and he another sounds like marital bliss.

    Good point!

I was referring to the features of the app -- have you seen it? It's pretty impressive how they integrate video, news feeds, interactivity and programming together seamlessly. And, yes, it is nice to have access to a fast, accurate, weather app to track all of the storms and tornado's that we've had in Missouri this spring.

No, not every post is about you. And not everything that applies to you would apply to another person either.

That sometimes doesn't work in Chicago The weather can change too much in the same day. An app that gives hourly changes is perfect here because you may need a jacket or umbrella later in the day.

A long time ago, before apps existed, it was fun to see it dropped 20 degrees but you forgot your jacket.

P.S. I sometimes have trouble sleeping too without background noise. Not always, but certainly sometimes.
HP has officially ruined it's own platform and kicked webOS loyalists and early TouchPad adopters to the curb. You think after you drop it like a hot potato and mention it made no money and is costing you money, anyone else wants it??? Way to go HP!!

And some people are fools to keep believing their hype. HP has shown they will throw webOS under the bus and people are still having faith in them??? News flash: if it's own company won't stand behind it, it's finished!

Your wife has two requirements that are met by another device, yet you shudder. Your personal tech prejudices are holding back you wife tech happiness.

I agree with the answer, except for the unfortunate part. It's unfortunate that the OP's preferred choice does not have the requirements his wife is looking for.

Yes, the open webos environment is great, except right now it has nada.

    Correct answer

This is really amazing. People are so blindly devoted to one platform they are willing to hold others back from having the functions they want, which are available, now. Yeah, iOS is closed. iOS is boring. iOS doesn't multitask. Android is inelegant. Andorid is confusing. Webos is non of these, yet right now, today, you can't do jack, like Netflix, Crackle, Slingbox, HBOGo, stream movies form compouter, etc.

Yet Android and iOS fail, iPad sucks.

I always here the term sheep applied to Apple fans. I wonder if that is entirely accurate.

I recommend letting her get the device she wants, you'll have less headaches in the end.

If you're looking out the windows to be notified of a tornado, that's way too late!

    I agree, but...

I wonder if that would be the advice you'd give if it was a TouchPad she wanted.

    I suspect not.\\Correct answer

You know what else is "really amazing"? People are so blindly devoted to one platform that they actually register, and log into, forums for other platforms; and then try to "inform" people about how wrong they are in their choice.

    No, I'm serious. They do!
