Ahh these sales reps kill me with the BS, I love it...

BTW, just got another call from my rep after not calling her back the last time.

Went to check the voicemail and she had e-mailed me too. Asked about delivery and receipt date, we will see what BS I get.
I love physical keyboards... but there is two devices that would make me consider a slab, one is something running a full version of Open webOS. The other is an iPhone!!!! HA HA just kidding (about the iPhone that is)...

Email dialogue with a different HP sales rep:
    Rolf,

    If I preorder from you,
A). when will my Touchpad and accessories I order be shipped.
B). If the answer is Friday July 1st, will you provide next day SATURDAY delivery so I will have my TP on the 2nd?

    Thanks,
    Barry

    Reply from Rolf:

It really depends on where you are located because FedEx will ship on Saturday if they ship on Saturday in your area. So you may receive it on Saturday but at the latest Tuesday July 5th.

To which I then supplied him my location hoping to get clarification:

I am in Southern California, Orange County, Irvine to be specific.

    Rolf replied:

Okay well if the TouchPad is on the FedEx truck on Friday with overnight shipping you should receive it on Saturday.

So I pushed a little harder:

If I preorder from you before July 1st, can you guarantee me that my order will be on the Fed-Ex truck outbound to me Friday, July 1st.

In the end Rolf promised me squat:

I cannot guarantee that it will be because I do not work in the warehouse, but the likely hood of it being shipped out on July 1st is pretty good.

So there you have it, HP claims that if Fed-Ex provides Saturday delivery in your area, then you will most likely receive your pre-order they ship out on Friday July 1st using overnight delivery (If it makes it onto the Fed-Ex truck that day) on Saturday July 2nd.

Still are many IF's and no guarantees!

    Barry,

That is entirely possible. We are working to get them shipped out the 30th to have it to you by the first. However the allocation of Touchpads is larger through our division that it will be through commercial stores. You are more likely to actually get a unit ordering through us than trying to pick one up at a local retail location. I will let you know if anything changes.

right. means they ship less to stores and like to sell it online more.

so. launch day availability is smaller in stores. while online inventory, although larger, can't reach customer on launch day. this is just not a sound strategy.

Actually you are forgetting the most important part. These individuals only get paid if they make sales, they are going to try to convince every person they can talk to that they are the best source because this is how they get their paycheck.

The reality of it is, preorders are being done soon enough that HP can decide how many they want in stores. It works like this, you get your preorders done, see what percentage of currently available stock that is, then you have the option of shipping more or less to brick and mortar retailers.

I would even guess the first purchases from online retailers could possibly drop ship from HP directly. This allows HP to fulfill all of their preorder customers before committing stock to other retailers.

All of this doesn't matter as you will go around spewing your assumptions as fact, but in reality anyone who reads what is written above will know how the business model is actually functioning. Thanks.

Thanks for this great set of discussion to my original question.

Here we are, the night before our anticipated "phone calls to be able to order" and there is no information about that process.

Will brick and mortar with their on line be taking pre orders at midnight locally. One Britt did that hours ago. Where is the priority for those orders in comparison to people who have 'devoted' HP sales rep allegiance and wait for that priority call.

Why has HP not focused in on the webOS or Palm communities with some kind of promo, though not informative, offering some bonus. I offered to trade my PalmV, 6035, 7135 and 600 in for the accessories. I even have some Kyocera. No such luck being recognized as a devoted and inordinately patient Palm-ite. Anyone interested in some collectibles?

So it will be interesting how they treat/recognize our community.

I am very excited for my Fathers Day anticipation. Actually it is from my sons for my 69th birthday last month.
