i told myself that if it was over 600 i would have a hard time justifying a purchase. (for me at least, i'm a broke college student, and webOS loyalist, lol.)

Pre 3 might be my only purchase unless the price is less or other devices are announced.

    Now I've heard $399, $499, $599 and $699.

You know which one I think it is? I don't. I'm going to wait for the actual announcement.

good point, lol. but assuming this is the price, my opinion stands.

    i think i'd be happy with a 499 price.

    I hope $699 for 32Gb

02/10/2011 11:10:09AM Agent (Marie): "HP is considered the best in technology. Thank you for choosing HP. I will be happy to assist you with your concern today."
02/10/2011 11:11:20AM Agent (Marie): "Yes it will be available with our HPA site."
02/10/2011 11:11:39AM Jon Dagata: "oh awesome. are you erfering to the touchpad?"
02/10/2011 11:11:59AM Jon Dagata: "or the pre 3 or both?"

Yea they are leaving out that this is one version. Theres wifi, 3g and 4g varrients. So its likely that the 4g will be sold by verizon and will be $699 why not? Verizon offers the lowest ipad for $630 but you have to carry a mifi.

...This programming stuff is actually addictive but really hard :/

I think $699 is the right price-point, but the June release gives them plenty of time to see how other tablets sell at various other price points before making a final determination. Even then, prices are subject to change.

$699 will hardly break the bank, if it has 32 GB of storage it will be in line with all of the other pads.

I hope you're right considering they said the 3G/4G would come after the TouchPad.

They did announce a wifi, 3g and 4g model. They just didnt say what carriers yet. $699 is not for a wifi touchpad. That would make the 4g like $1000. They said wifi would come out fist but who says it isnt!

Also hp is known for coupons! I just got an hp envy for $804 shipped with a $500 coupon

We know the first TP will be wifi only. We know it is due out in the Summer. We know a 3G is supposed to follow later. The I doubt BGR would be tipped on the price of the second pad rather than the first.

Let me just say, $700 TP next to a $500 iPad 2 is DOA. Apple will have sold millions by the time the TP comes out. HP will not be able to get any attention at $700. I suspect HP will subsidize the first model to get the price to $500, and try for the economy of scale on the next round.

I also don't believe there is any legitimate tip on the price. Frankly, as early as the current build is, I don't think they know how much it will cost.

It will be interesting to see who HP considers its competition. I know they said they want to be cool like Apple, but perhaps they consider their market to be the non iPad people.

Perhaps they are waiting to see how much the Xoom and PlayBook are being sold for and will market against those, as opposed to marketing against the iPad.

    $699 is death.

I just saw some marketing materials for the Toshiba Tablet that indicate it's going to come in waaaaaay below that price point. And with the monkey see, monkey do approach, that's going to drive down the price of other comparable Android tablets.

Have a good look at the TP and the iPad side-by-side. I think we know who they consider the competition. The PB is an accessory for BBs. The Xoom will sell exactly ten units at $800. Besides the iPad, who else is there to compete against.? The Galaxy T... The Galax... The.
