    Hi all,

tried to doctor my PRE3 with webOS 2.2.4. Did this not for the first time, so I knew what to expect in terms of progress...... but

    - the process stopped at 4 percent
    - the HP logo never appeard
    - so the ramdisk apparently did not load
    - the log shows a flash error

Now I am a bit stuck and helpless....... added a logfile image.

The phone still comes back to life with a 3-button restart command.

I am not the very big linux specialist. I can handle command line commands in WOSQI, and commands from the Windows CMD window. Any help appreciated, Thanks.

Are you sure you're using the right Doctor for the device?

Wouldn't the good Dr. inform you: 'Incompatible with device' if so?

From the log I guess that is exactly the problem. The "waiting to come back" failed also while ramdisk seems to load well.
I already tried a memboot with the extracted uImage, but the command
    novacom boot mem:// < uImage-2.6.32.9-palm-rib
showed no reaction, i.e. I could not see any activity

You should see the HP logo displayed on the screen after the ramdisk is loaded.

Sorry, GMMan, I was not precise enough in my prvious post. The TRANSFER to the ramdisk seems to be OK and complete, but after that the restart (during which I should see the HP logo) is not coming. The Novacom connection is not restarting, as far as I can see from the log (see first post) .

The reason the whole thing started was that I wiped all patches with the EPR, but some patches still report "seems to be installed" when I try to re-install them (Advanced System Prefs Framework for example) or don't install at all, resulting in an error (log files says "... seems to be installed...". Other patches install without error, but don't show the desired effect

A while ago I had to expand the application partition after "Application Database full". That worked well using the available instructions.

I am ready to completely wipe the phone and the USB partition (format), but I would need support in the form of a dummies instruction.

I've watched this problem from a problem touchpad...When the doctoring is 4% and the device showing HP logo as same as turn on the device. But doctor is still stuck on the PC. It seems Novacom driver problem. Try to use the other computer....

I can try that, but not right away.......

On the other side, I am somewhat alerted looking at the log (post 1) which says around line 8 "WARNING: Flash Failure" and about 10 lines further "INFO: Flash end time (Fail)".

    I guess I was lucky!!

I tried a doctor using 2.2.0. At 4 percent (where I suspected novacom not able to reconnect) I quickly disconnected the phone from the PC and reconnected immediately (< 1 sec). And it continued......... to a successful doctoring. Now downloaded the update to 2.2.4 OTA, and the phone is accepting app updates and patches again.

Thanks to all for the tips, here and in all other Fora on webOS Nation! I am a happy PRE3 user again

Good news. But don't disconnect the cable while showing the CPU+arrow on the screen. It will damage the mainboard.

More specifically, if it was flashing firmware to certain components, disconnecting may brick those components.

thanks lemanho and GMMan. In fact it never progressed to the point of the arrow/chip picture, only after the dis-/reconnect "trick". Nevertheless I'm a happy PRE3 user again.
