Google maps not loading?

So recently my google maps application just stopped loading the maps images, it seems to have a location lock but the images of streets etc will never show up. However when i load up google maps through the browser and the mobile verrsion comes up, everything loads. I find this strange, would this be an app issue or not?

Now it gets strange when i recently installed the HERE app from preware, this has the same issue. The maps images wont load up, but it seems to have the location lock. I hope someone can help me here as its really annoying having a phone without GPS these days, and i love my pre 3 and am not about to switchover so help!
