App for front camera Pre3

Yes, there's finally a free app to use the front camera on the Pre 3. The application is in Preware ;-)

Have you tried it yet? Any better than PhotoMe?

It does work but it looks like not all images will be saved. I cannot compare it to PhotoMe. I have only access to free apps in my part of Europe.

It works (I've never used PhotoMe to compare it), but it saves each picture with the filename 'live.jpg' so if you take multiple pictures, all but the last one is lost.

I've just uploaded version 0.0.9 of Frontcam:

* photo are now named like the photo renaming patches, eg. pre_2012-11-21-200357-f.jpg (and so you can make as much photos as you like)
* photos are saved in the usual place, so the webOS photo viewing app can be used for viewing
* webos top info line (menu, date, RF signal strength etc) is now visible
* Command menu with, ehm, kind of help & support

Only feedback: It'd be nice to get rid of the white fading overlay at the bottom.

Finally... if wonderful devs like you were able to modify the camera app to enable the light during video, would it be possible to get to the front camera with a patch? That is, just add a button to the regular Camera app that switches the source of the image? (Although guess it'd have to also enable/disable AF at the same time.)

Yes, very disturbing. But I do not know how to remove that. It is somethin with scrolling; but I can not even google for it, as I'am in low bandwidth countryside right now. Writing this post takes long time alone :-/

Good idea. Just looked into the sources and found (com.palm.app.camera\javascripts\camera-control.js, 1446, webos 2.2.4):

Obviously the app wasn't reviewed for Pre3 :-)

I still see it in Preware. From "List of everything", search for Frontcam. Sure your feeds are updated?

And sure you have a Pre 3?

As for a patch, I looked at Jason's Video Flashlight patch for comparison on how he added a button. No small chore, even assuming one can be sure of the API to switch sources. Not to mention merging in some of your code. Thought I might try anyway, but out of my depth.

How does one compile a patch? Is it just by some automated comparison of an edited file to the original?
