    I've been stuck on the "installing" for a few days now.

    Because of this I can't install anything from Preware, how can I sort this problem out?

    I have a German Pre3 version.

    Have you tried a device restart?

    Any patch installs or software changes since the last time it worked.

    Secure Full Erase, and then re-sync your phone.

    If the app catalog ever fails to upgrade use internalz pro from preware and delete /media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/applicatons/com.palm.app.findapps...

    Then go to /usr/palm/ipkgs/ and locate the com.palm.app.findapps ipk and install it thru internalz pro or preware...

    This will bring you back to the default app catalog of your build. Then you can let it get upgraded...

    I've tried these steps.
    And I was able to reinstall the german "App Catalog" version v2.0.23300 on 2.2.4 Pre2.

    But then the Upgrade to next version of the german "App Catalogg" still fails.
    Note, this newer version is named "App Catalogg" (with "gg") v2.0.23400 (33,09 MB) and is from 28.04.2012.
    It always reports an "error during download" (Fehler beim Herunterladen) Trying again does not help.

    Any idea - what is going wrong here ?

    try going to...

    /var/palm/data/com.palm.appinstallservice

    and delete any/all folders in there as well as the file...

    installhistory.db

    had to do this yesterday to my 2nd touchpad when a load of apps failed or got stuck and ghosted or just flat our refused to install, did the above and all was well, think this only happened to me due to quite a few apps downloading at once rather than a few here and there a time.

    who knows.

    I found the files and renamed them. New folder/files were created.
    Same error message continues: "error during download" (Fehler beim Herunterladen)

    I also renamed this file "installhistory.db" - but this was not recreated until I rebooted the Pre2.

    tried deleting them all, not renaming (could copy the folder to be safe) then immediatly do a full device restart?

    You could be out of space on /var. There's a link in my resource list about it (see signature).

    I also tried this today. But no change. Still the same download error later on.
    I assume this might occur only for the German catalog version(?)
    I use Palm Pre2 with webos 2.2.4 in Germany.

    I could doctor the device - but I fear that would not help for this case.

    Thanks. I did check that too. My /var/luna uses less then 500kB. So there should be no problem.

    BTW - the article "Symptoms of full /var partition" that you referenced was created by myself :

    At this point I'd say check the logs. Raise App Catalog to INFO level, and watch to see what the error is.

    FYI - I did generate a number of logs files.
    Then later I anyhow switched the device to use a different webos profile. I did bypass the activation over radio/sms.
    The catalog displayed still showed an error - but some time later I was able to load that to new app catalog without issue. Strange - suddenly this upgrade worked ok.
    I did not inspect the log file in detail - as now I have a working setup.

    Today I ran into the exact same app catalog upgrade issues with another device Pre Plus that I doctored to the official 2.1.0. I also bypassed the activation using *#DEVMODE# and Impostah.
    Still the same upgrade issue happened.

    BUT then I inserted a SIM card once and rebooted the device.
    After boot Wifi was enabled by default and the failed app downloads were repeated automatically.
    This now also upgraded the app catalog to the newest version !!!


    Really strange !! Why does inserting a SIM card make any difference ???
    I tried to find out if any SMS text message was sent by webos (for profile activation - or what) - but I could not find any in the IM messaging app.

    Can some expert please explain want happens here ?

    I just bought HP PRE 3.
    In the second time a tried to open App Catalog launcher, it start to run and didn't load completely, staying in "looping".
    This situation continues until now.
    I've already made hard reset, and full reset without success.

    I"d like to have some help, because I'm not an expert im hard and software.

    Did you activate your webOS account and set it up properly on your phone?
