    Arrrrgh!

Will try the same, but I certainly can't manage with a smartphone without data long-term. Will be keen to see if this stops the problem to at least give a bit more 'data' to work on.

BTW I've phoned the AU HP webOS support line as instructed by a US support consultant 1800 282 653, they were useless, tried the US support line +1 877 426 3777 and apart from understanding about 1 word in 10 they were likewise useless as 'the device is not officially released so we have no information on it'. Next step will be to spend more on an international call to the UK support line and see if they can help. The gotcha there is that so far the EU radio firmware seems to be performing OK so I can just see the handball coming 'we didn't release the ATT version, please phone US support'

Just a thought Hewball.... since you've got access to Qualcomm tools do you have the capability to pull the firmware from a EU phone and write it back to an ATT one? Could be risky...?
  6. #146
EU radio firmware on an ATT phone generates exactly the same error when it crashes, i have confirmed this on both the available firmware versions for the EU phones

they are available in the WebOS Doctors, if you extract them

Unless I'm misinterpreting someone's post, I see a disconnect between this and PreRunr's post on the previous page:

"Over 24 hours on Telstra SIM with an EU Pre3 and not seen any reboots. I see that that it s a MU2.0.30(3503) vs MU2.0.30(3004) for the AT&T version, suggests an upgraded version. The other difference is that the Telstra 850 MHz link is not being used only the 2100 MHz for data."

Can you reconcile this with your experience, or is PreRunr doing something slightly different to what you did?

However assuming that is the case, this is exceptionally good news as far as the chances of getting a fix as the EU Pre 3 was officially released.

he is using AN EU phone with EU Firmware

this is why im testing 2100mhz only and not 850mhz, saying that if this works its only temporary a previous post said they are turning off 2100mhz soon

So build 3503 on ATT device crashes? If so it's presumably not a firmware issue then? Wouldn't that mean it's either hardware, network or something specific to the ATT build of webOS? I don't suppose you've tried a full EU version of webOS on a ATT phone? What you got from the modem logs suggests it's lower level than webOS but I can't now see where the fault's lying. I also thought a previous test you'd done had ruled out network frequency?
  10. #150
my previous test had confirmed that 850mhz on any firmware was crashing, its a crash in the modem firmware, the only difference between the EU and ATT webos versions is Modem Firmware and some extra apps nothing this deep other than modem firmware version.
i spent many hours reading about UMTS implementations from qualcomm and telstra, RRC also is a network "handshake" as such so something in that could be causing it, as with 2G this handshake isn't quite the same and 4 days with no crashes with 2g only on my main pre3 kinda confirms its not an issue on that

happy to provide debug logs for you to provide HP if that will help, again i cant read them as i dont have the needed tools for this

also note there is differences in network between 850(pure Telstra) and 2100 (3 Telstra)

Sorry, I was referring to pre3 cuts out and reboots randomly where you said 'common to both as it's not frequency-based'. Was that testing something different?

I'll get back to you if I can find anyone in HP that cares enough about the problem to be interested. Will be interested to see what you find re network-related stuff.
  12. #152
i tested with 850 purely and with both enabled, working on 2100mhz is kinda moot anyway, as its city only and will be gone in a few months, so we are just delaying the problem, spare pre3 is testing 2100mhz only now anyway

You could try contacting this guy... http://www.facebook.com/jijian.zhang I don't do Facebook, don't go outside the bounds of the problem, explain that you think it has been caused by a firmware upgrade on Telstra wireless hardware see if he can point you in the right direction?

Maybe 2.2.5 might bring modem firmware updates, FWIW I have seen exactly this behaviour on the new iPhone 4S in the past, and I'm sure Voda had this issue with android devices at some point, and they adjusted their firmware settings.

After no crashes that I could detect (I do sleep and I do have it in a pouch so maybe I missed it), I have put my telstra SIM back into the ATA&T and operating everything on, including BT. Strange but no errors yet but I am not moving around the CBD. My travels yesterday with the EU Pre3 were from CBD to 15km out back, than back out, then home in CBD.

pre3 locked to 2100mhz has rebooted twice in the last 45 mins, sitting on my desk checking a gmail account every 5 mins, so that hasnt helped either

OK so just so we're clear, hewball can you just clarify from all the tests you've done where the fault lies? I'm not 100% confident trying to champion this cause to HP support when I'm not confident on the facts (I'd be happy for someone else to contact them).

So is the the potential solution in order,

    1) Modem firmware update (Rex)

    2) Adjust WebOS to reflect adjustments in Rex?
