Please excuse my ignorance when asking my question. I just got my treo 650 (cingular) on Monday and the first thing I noticed was the handset speaker is horrible. It is extremely difficult to hear even with the volume all the way up. I have been reading through the site and noticed that FW 1.43 appears to correct the issue, which i downloaded.

How do I upgrade the firmware? I thought I could go on my desktop lauch "quick install" select the files and add them for my next sync. I sync'd the 650 and nothing appears to be updated. Am I missing a step?

    thanks!

Assuming that you downloaded the zip for updating the firmware only (FW143_Update.zip) - it should contain only 7 files - you should be following these directions for its installation.

However, I would suggest that since you're new to owning a Treo, you may want to learn a little more about it before you start installing unofficial FW updates of uncertain provenance...and since yours is a Cingular-branded device, you may want to do some research on whether applying a non-Cingular FW update voids your warranty or not.

    Couldn't agree more with that!

If volume is your issue, search for VolumeCare.

I have cingular treo650 which is now unlocked. the firmware still shows 1.15.

is there a way to update to a unlocked gsm firmware? and if i am doing this on a treo that was priorly a cng branded phone, will it screw up the treo?
