    1x is for 1xRTT (CDMA technology)
    The characters usually indicate you're Roaming (This is a VZW phone?) *228 will usually correct it.

    Those "wierd characters" have been a topic of conversation, but I can't remember where the original threads were. Seems as though a lot of folks get them with Verizon.
    *228 will work, as will turning the phone off and then on again.
    Palm Vx => M505 => M515 => T =>T3 =>T5 =>Treo 650 => Treo 700P (Verizon)
