In my very limited experience, Palm devices (my old Kyocera 6035, my wife's current Treo 650) beat the hell out of PPC or Smartphone devices in terms of battery life. Am I wrong? A function of the device? Or the OS? Those that are already partial to the Palm OS are really going to freak if WM5 takes your battery life from several days to less than one.

Typically PPC devices have a shorter battery life than Palm devices. WM5 is supposed to reduce battery consumption somewhat (compared to PPC), but it will be a percentage decrease, not several factors.

    Or this:

"A senior Palm executive says his company could benefit from building a mobile computing device that runs on the Windows operating system made by once-bitter rival Microsoft.

In an interview, Palm Chief Financial Officer Andrew Brown said that building a Treo that runs on the mobile version of Windows might help the company woo corporate customers who have been reticent to buy its Palm OS-based gadgets. "

    Wink wink, nudge nudge.

Kupe, where is the proof to back up your claims on battery life? It is all dependent on the user and their needs.

So Palm will continue to produce smartphones with Palm OS, and are just offering a new WM5 solution?

My experience using Palm and Smartphone in similar ways is proof enough for me. The people on the i730 forum will say the same thing about the i730 vs. the Treo. But I always wondered if it were the device, not the software.

BTW, interesting entries on power management and NVFS for PPC, Smartphone, and WM5 throughout August here: http://blogs.msdn.com/windowsmobile/

Oh hey, there's something new. Yeah, you blind idiots. I mentioned this interview 2 weeks ago and even gave a link to the recording. No one believed my source, so then as luck would have it, I was actually able to provide proof of Palm's direction BUT to no avail. It is like I am invisible here on TreoCentral. Why do I continue posting. Everything I say is discounted or ignored. I feel like I am living 3 months ahead of everyone here on TreoCentral. After awhile it takes its toll.

    Anyone else feel this way?

Use for use, phone for phone, my statements hold. The only speculation I have in my post was the assertion of improved battery life on WM5 platforms - that is the repeat of an assertion made on the MSDN.

Did you have a specific question about my post?

There will be plenty of stuff to report in the coming months. We promise not to notice your posts from those either.

Kupe, yes, again I ask, what proof do you have? Not opinions, if you have opinions that is one thing but you stated it as a fact.
