New mobile phone virus traced in India

(The Hindu via NewsEdge) A new mobile phone virus that drains the battery of infected handsets has been detected in India.

The virus, believed to be a variant of the world's first mobile phone worm Cabir, infects high-end mobile phones that run on the Symbian OS via Bluetooth.

Indian cellphone dealers further warned that attacks are not limited to any particular operating system or mobile phones.

"You will realize it only when the phone hangs or become disabled," he said.

Fortunately NVFS means dead battery won't cause loss of data.

Is Norton or MacFee or somebody working on a virus program for the Palm OS? It's only a matter of time before they are here. . . .

Someone said I needed a firewall for my Treo 650, so I built one, but it melted the stupid thing.

Not only that, but currently P.OS viruses are so rare, it's not worth it.

come on now, do we have to get to that? If nobody make viruses, virus companies will definately try to get one to sell their products. Man oh man. I cant wait linux to come into market of pda... or apple perhaps?? But its good to know that its rare to find any Palm virus.

    This is old news.
    1. It ONLY affects Symbian OS phones (mainly nokia).
    2. It requires the user to accept a file when the worm attemps to propagate to the handset: http://www.f-secure.com/v-descs/cabir.shtml
