I did a search and found no answers...

I installed the bundled desktop for my 650 on a Windows ME system. When I go to the Icon it throws up an error window saying "can't start rich text support" and will not open. Any idea how to fix this?

Please be gentle, I know ME sucks but don't have enough processor or cash to upgrade to XP.

    TIA

    Hi Dragonman!

What does your Treo 650 box say for compatibility? I thought I read in a different thread that Palm Desktop was not compatible with Windows ME, but I may be mistaken on that.

Does this have any bearing? It speaks to a script that may be missing in Windows ME, causing a problem with the Palm Desktop and lists the solution. You will have to paste the address -- I do not know why it is not clickable.

I used to hear about this error all the time. The traditional solution was always to search the hard drive on the problem computer for the file, "riched32.dll"; if a copy is not in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM, copy it to that directory. Now try launching Palm Desktop.

    Hi Dragonman!

Use the search or find function in ME.
Search for that file -- hopefully it appears in some directory on your computer.
Then copy it from where you found it, to the suggested directory above.

(The search function is under "Start" in Windows XP)

    Cheers, Perry.

Well I got a riched32.dll file and got past that error. I reinstalled the desktop and got a runtime error...Grr. Still haven't gotten a good synch. I think it may have to do w/ the USB driver. Will try that tomorrow night.

    Any other ideas are welcomed...

I have considered burning the Comp but the wife talked me out of it..

Good luck, but you won't get any support from Palmone on this. The system requirements paragraph on the Treo 650 page reads as follows:

    Windows
•Windows 2000 or XP (later versions may also be supported) with USB port (USB HotSync® cable included)
    • CD-ROM drive
