right now i have a treo 600 and have had it since december 2003. ive been wanting the treo 650 for a while now but dont really know the best way to do this.

what im thinking is to return it to the sprint store because it has a "defect" and get a new or refurbished one and sell that as a new one. but i dont have any idea how i could sell it or for how much.

my service is with sprint, how would i go about getting the best possible rebates on the new phone if i have an existing line of credit with them? most rebates apply when u dont have service yet. ive heard something from sprint where after 18 months of their service you could purchase a phone and still get the $150 rebate from them. is this true? would i get it also qualify for rebates from a site like amazon?

thanks for helpin me out guys

Don't deceive your carrier. If the phone's working as it's supposed to and you really want to upgrade, sell it for what you can and put the proceeds towards a 650.

Give Sprint Sales a call and act like a new customer desiring new service and a TREO 650 -- see what deals they are willing to offer to a new customer.

Then call back as yourself, armed with the prior conversation knowledge, and see what you can negotiate. I, personally, like to deal face to face in a Sprint Store.

It sounds like you have had your existing Treo long enough to qualify for the regular rebate.

    Good Luck !!

Yes there is a 150$ rebate after owning a 600 for 18 months... June 23rd ... June 23rd ... June 23rd ... June 23rd Uh oops sorry, anyway I talked with the Sprint guys many times some of which included "amunition" received based on a new contract pricing.

I have opted for waiting until my 18 month date... June 23rd ... June 23rd ... June 23rd ... June 23rd. Opps sorry again. This will allow me a 150 rebate. Another thing is to ask them if the have any specials comming up.

In my case I went in when a special was running & was able to talke the sales person into honoring it after it had expired.

Also the Sprint store I go to gives a discount to Credit Union members.

I am also trading my wife's old phone for a 75$ return refund & getting her a 650 also. Then signing up for the family plan deal & paying only one "Vision Business Connection Personal" plan option (I'm still confused about this name, how can it be business if it's personal?) charge to cover both phones.

As far as selling my 600 I have a guy at work who is willing to buy it for the current e-bay rate.

pablo: the phone is falling apart, scratches everywhere, loose antenna, stupid label peeling off AGAIN and the paint is off on the 5-way navigator. if they give me any trouble, ill perform a ROM update and reset the phone in the middle of it. thats the best way to fry the radio so every time u make a phone call it soft resets. i found that out the hard way. fourtunatley its covered under warranty.

dr and perry: thanks for the help. wondering what the current e-bay rate is. i qualified for the $150 rebate already in may but i wasnt sure if i needed to extend my contract with sprint 2 more years to get it. thanks again.

You will have to sign a new 2-year contract to get the rebate, unfortunately. Depending on what plan you have that might not be a good idea. Right now my wife and I get Vision for $10/month and don't have to pay extra to have two lines on a shared plan. They charge $15 for vision now and charge for a second line, not to mention I think the monthly plans are more expensive now than they were when we signed our last contract in 2002. Unless they allow you to keep your plan as-is, you might want to just wait a little longer to buy a 650.

Now, since you have actual damage to your phone, you may be able to get a 650 as a replacement for your 600 if you complain enough about the loose antenna and plate coming off. The other damages you described sound more like wear and tear for a 2 year old phone. If you complain enough, you just might get a 650!

yeah that would be ideal. its not wear and tear for two years, ive had it since i think feburary. its my fourth treo. i was at the sprint store yesterday because of the dropped call problem (would say signal but when i went to call it would flash "no service") and the tech came out to talk to me and i argued with her that it drops my calls and that i have all these problems with it just like the other four that i had. she just told me to call lockline because i have insurance and there is nothing she could do for me.

You might want to try going to a different store and speaking with someone else. If you find a store that is pretty busy you might get more accomplished than going to a store that doesn't do so well sales-wise. The techs will try and BS you but if you insist that there is a problem and tell them their answers and explanations are unacceptable, they will help you. I had that happen to me twice.

I went to the web first, printing the most outrageous Treo deals I could find. It helps that I was free of my Sprint contract also. I went to the Sprint store, but I couldn't get any traction, so I called Sprint and told them I needed to cancel my service. When they asked me why, I told them: I need to get the Treo 650 for $350.00 or less. I told them about the deals I'd seen on the web and how disappointed I was that a new customer could get such great deals and all I could get is a new contract. They transferred me to the "Preferred Customer" line, where I told them I'd be willing to accept a service credit to make up the difference (the closest they could get was $449.00 with the $150.00 rebate). They went for it. When I went the store to pick up my Treo, I convinced them to make my rebate an instant one, they applied the service discount directly to my account and I got my Treo for $349.00! - with a 2-year contract.

I just did this last night. I bought my 600 on Nov 23, 2003 (the day you could port your number), and I went to the Sprint store with a printout from amazon.com selling the 600 for $250 when the store wanted to charge me $400. The store matched the price (after whatever rebates and such), and I was happy. In Nov 2004, the phone crapped out, and I took it back to the store and they replaced it, thus extending the warranty 6 months, and giving me a "new" phone. In feb, it crapped out again (couldn't place a call unless full battery), so I did the same thing and got a new phone. Last night, I went to the sprint store with 18+ months on my contract and a printout from amazon showing the "no service plan" price of $518.99 (then I could tack on the $150 mail in rebate for a new 2 year service contract). I tried to get them to match it, but they got really, really pissy. I spent an hour and a half in the store with them, as they repeadetly called managers and such. I got them to go to $530 (before the mail in rebate for $150), and I walked home a happy camper.

I learned a lot in the process. Sprint works on commission (as I assume most do), so when they told me "I can't change the price", I knew they were lying because I could see that they could on the screen. It was all in him losing more commission. He knew I was smart and that I knew what his system said, yet he still tried to tack stuff on the account (like some $30 internet package rather than my $15 vision I already have), but I held to my ground. It's good to bring another person in with you who can "wander" and read the screen while you're talking to the employee.

I also learned that Sprint tracks your account to the phone, so when you get a replacement phone, it screws up the whole system. It claimed I was a new customer in Feb 2005, when that was only the last time I got a "new" phone from them. That was a good 40 minutes of the ordeal. Be prepared for when you upgrade that if you ever had a replacement or you switched to a company's discount or something, their system in the store will not have the information and they will have to call out to take care of it. I'm still convinced they took my word for it that I was a customer since Nov 2003- they never "actually" were able to find it- so beware if you're with a service rep who's not willing to work with you.

. I switched from Sprint to AT&T when I upgraded my Handspring Treo 300 for a 600 in early December of 2003. Now I am a semi-unwelcome child of Cingular.
. Any suggestions for the most cost efficent upgrade to a Treo 650, but staying with my current Cingular plans?

I went to the store (Sprint) to pick up my refrib 600. I told them while I was waiting for the phone to come in, I had spent the week on the internet researching the problem I was having with my phone (this was the 3rd time they replaced it), as well as I talked to some 600 conterparts who did not have Sprint as a provider. I informed them that it was a recurring problem with the 600 and in about 3 months I would probably be back with the same issue. I went on to tell them that the issue was apparently fixed in the 650 and that I couldn't afford to have this problem again with the 600 knowing that it would keep happening. The tech manager upgraded me to a 650 with no problem. I was charged $10 for the insurance deductable and the whole transaction took about 20 minutes.

I'm glad someone else noticed that this is fraud. I was starting to really wonder about the morals of my fellew Treo owners.

If you want the great features of the 650 that bad... PAY FOR IT!!!

Only from a certain point of view. From my point of view Sprint is the one committing fraud. They allow websites such as your own TreoCentral to sell 650's to new customers for the final cost of $289 after 2 year service contract. At the sametime they disallow it for their existing customers even if they are out of contract. Loyal customers get raped by Sprint for $450 and still have to buy the 2 year service contract. Unless of course they are willing to go into a store and argue for an hour and a half with a rep, or call up to get their service cancelled.

Sprint strong arms TreoCentral and other similar businesses to exclude current Sprint customers. If businesses like TreoCentral do not comply then Sprint does not provide them with the same discounted prices that their competitors are getting. This is price fixing. It is collusion. It is an illegal business practice and was one of the charges that was high up on the Justice Department's anti-trust suit against Microsoft. And from my point of view, TreoCentral and it's staff are accomplices to this fraud....

    Oh Puhleeze...
It would only be collusion if Treocentral got together with ALL the other businesses that carry Treo's and fix the price.

Sprint has a policy that applies to ALL existing customers regardless of where they buy their phone. That's not collusion it's smart business.

If you hate Sprint so bad LEAVE. but don't equate a legal business practice to purposley destroying the functionality of your device and THEN expect Sprint to eat the loss... THAT is FRAUD... plain and simple!!!

If a lawyer's answer is definitive regarding the legality of an action then why don't they all just agree in court instead of arguing? Johnny Cochran was a lawyer. Did you believe everything he said? What about a lawyer from the early 1800's? He would've told you that aiding escaped slaves was illegal. So would you have turned one in? Pretty narrow view of the world friend when you have to depend on a lawyer's answer as your basis for right or wrong.
