I know my available options for buying the Treo 650. I am trying to figure out which is the best place. I already a have a sprint phone with a plan so I will not be able to get a new user rebate. The two places that I have looked at so far are the PalmOne store online or a local Sprint store. There are two factors that are important: Price and what happens if it breaks. So here are my questions:

    1) Does the PalmOne store charge sales tax? I know that if buy it from a local sprint store I will have to pay sales tax on the item.

    2) Does PalmOne or Sprint Store offer an extended warranty (Past the one year)?

    3) If sprint offers an extended warranty, do you have to buy it from them and what does it cover? Cover such things like me losing it or dropping it. I heard from someone that they might offer like a $4 a month charge for a warranty.

If anyone has any suggestions or information I would sure appreciate it. If I do get one I will definately be visiting this site a lot.

    Thanx!

Where to get it really depends on a bunch of things. If you want it low priced (maybe not the lowest, but close) with no sales tax and free 2 day shipping, I'd go with Amazon. Last year I bought a phone from them and there were really great when something went wrong and I had to return it.

They have it for $319 right now after special promotions.

If you want to save every penny you can, search around, if you want fast delivery and really great customer service at almost the lowest price around, I'd go with Amazon. Their survice beats the pants off of buying from a Sprint store. IMHO.

Costco has the Treo 650 for 729.99 (GASP... I KNOW... LOTS O $$$$$$)... that being said, you have the wonderful Costco warranty (we take anything back any time for full refund excpept for laptops and computers which carry a 6 month window).

I was going to pay 349.99 + 200 cancelation fee of current service + 36 startup fee at cingular for a treo 650.

Now I think I'm just going to pay 729.99 at costco and stay with tmobile, have an 'unlimited' warranty where i can return the phone if there are any problems (and when a newer treo or other phone comes out 6 - 12 months down the line).

Costco near me (well, another city nearby-- Orem Utah) has some Sprint 650s. They have one of those Kiosks with T-Mobile and Verizon as well tho.

Their price is $570 which includes a leather case (they didn't have them in yet for me to look at), a car charger and a dinky hands-free ear piece. It also indicated they were offering around $200 in discounts or rebates or something for singing up for a new line of service w/ 2 year agreement, so what, $370-ish plus tax? But that's just in my neighborhood. They wouldn't sell me one because they're holding the few they have for new customers, and i already have sprint service. Probably couldn't ask for a better warranty than Costco tho... satisfaction guarantee.

QuickSmartphone.com has the GSM 650 unlocked for $539, the CDMA 650 for $317, no contract, and for a limited time throw in a free 128mb SD. Now I know nothing about this place, and the fact that they don't have a phone number on their site is slightly suspicious, but they are PayPal verified... so use at your own discretion. But I've been salivating over the idea 'cause that's the bets price I've ever seen.
