Can I just take the SIM out and leave it home for the week?

Thanks, I still need the Palm part.

if you are looking to use just the pda you can just leave the radio off, you could also take out the sim card though. it's your call.

if you take out the sim you know 100% it cant work. But turning off the radio would do the job too (but potentially you could turn it back on by accident)
p.s. where are you going? somewhere fun?

Yep, going somewhere really wild. And it's our first trip to Europe.

My husband and I are going to Monte Carlo courtesy of Poker Stars so he can play in the European Poker Tour.

We're going to stop in Nice for a few days to get acclimated to the time change.

Why would you want to do that? 90% of the reason I got my GSM Treo was so I could use it overseas!!

BTW, in most european countries, you can buy a new SIM which uses disposible re-charge cards very inexpensively. This allows you to have a temproary euro number, receive calls and make inexpensive calls to the US from there. the only requirement is that you have an unlocked GSM phone. contact vodafone to get more info.

I travelled 12 European countries with 9 different SIM cards on the Treo 600. In every cellular store, everyone was saying "no no, that isn't going to work with our cards"... They were amazed that it did.
Just a tip, STAY AWAY FROM THE INTERNET BROWSER. Everyone but Orange and BGTel had a decent data rate (5 Euros for 2 Mb I believe).

Yes. If I can use any SIM card that means I have an unlocked phone.

Yes for SMS(takes a few minutes of digging on google, but you'll find the settings), and yes for GPS. HMMMM, interested in purchasing my TomTom Navigator 3 (for Palm and PPC) with European maps?
