I got a mystery package today from PalmOne. It was a book by Jeff Hawkins - "On Intelligence".

Had anyone else received this courtesy of Palm?

Well, Is the book any good? If yes, how about a summary and post what email address was used or link.

I just realized the book is autographed as well. Googled and I found this:

Plus, if you're one of the first 100 people to place your order online, you'll also receive a FREE autographed copy of Jeff Hawkins' ground breaking new book "On Intelligence."

The book is well worth reading. It is a glimpse of future Artificial Intelligence theory and also a straightforward first attempt to describe how intelligence in the brain works. No one has attempted to write something all encompassing like this before.

I found only the middle portion to require heavy concentration. Other than that it was very straightforward reading. I read it months ago but the ideas are still floating around in my head (in a good way).

I enjoyed the book up to chapter five. Got a little lost when he went into the discussion of the brain cortex (chapter six). After that I lost some interest. In any case the book is good overall. Not that I agree with all of the author's ideas about the creation of intelligent machines, but it is something to think about though.

By the way, here is a link to OnIntelligence web site:
