Anyone? I'm sure this is something very simple and I'm overlooking this!

Today I was on the phone was struggling to find contacts. Finally did a find (for a random name) and got to the app.

    Hi zackz,

From the Active Call view, you can press the Menu button, then Views | Contacts.

    Yes, it's a little involved.

Yesterday I released a simple Treo 600 tool called PhoneView, which lets you cycle between Phone app views just by pressing the Phone button (like you would expect to be able to do). So, to get to Contacts, just tap the Phone button, then to get back to the active call screen just tap it again a couple times.

Trial version download and purchase available here:

David, I just downloaded the trial. However I've got a problem, it won't stay on the favourites page and it doesn't attempt to show the dial pad page. Is there a conflict somewhere?

While on a call, I simply press the Phone button and access my contacts as I normally would (no 3rd-party app required). Am I missing something?

I'm with Insp_Gadget. This is very simple. Why would you need an APP to do something like this?!

Exactly. I don't get it. This is VERY simple.

    Here's what I do:

    1. Make a call and start talking..."Hang on Buddy, I'll look that up..."
    2. Press the Phone button.
    3. Press "down" on the 5-way... (My contacts appear)
    4. Look up a contact as I normally do.

To return to my phone call screen, I just press the Phone button again.

This is too easy...What do we need a 3rd-party application to do?

I guess you don't need it and i really don't either, but I like it. Not so much for during a call. Just to nav my phone views quickly. I like to be able to cycle through favs, contacts, dial pad, and call log with one button.

Okay, that's all well and good, but has nothing to do with the original problem sited: Not being able to (or having difficulty) getting to the contacts while on a call.

As I see it, it's easy to get to Contacts while on a call and no 3rd-party application is necessary at all for that functionality. I just don't want some novice user thinking that he HAS to have a 3rd-party application to solve his problem. That was my point.

Can anyone explain to me the difference(s) between PhoneView and Treo Shortcuts?
  15. #15
I can't click phone button anymore to access contacts in an active call. Have I installed an app or changed a setting that may have disabled this function? HELP!!!

Go to prefs, buttons, then change phone to a different app and then back to phone. tada!!! It works again.

Lee, I just elaborated on this in another thread, but here's my take - I bought TreoShortCuts a while back, and have now just bought PhoneView instead - how odd that I've now paid $11 just to get back something very simple that I liked in the earlier Treos.... I agree with others that this isnt a big deal, but I guess I still instinctively want to cycle through with the button so I'm willing to pay a little for it...

after I did the recent Sprint Update, TreoShortCuts was never the same. I'd push the phone button once, and it would cycle quickly through two screens, not one. push it a second time, same thing happens. I reinstalled several times with no success.

I also didn't like that TSC meant five new apps and icons in my launcher. some may like that, but I never used them, and would have preferred just one. finally, I didn't like how difficult it was to change the configurations - as I recall, its kinda annoying to hold down the button and then have to tap the screen quickly.

in sum, PhoneView does all that TSC does, but so far is more stable, is only one icon, and is easier to configure.

Thanks, visorhawk! In the end, I decided that I was okay with the way the 600 is naturally configured, and didn't need the one button operation. Now VolKeys, on the other hand, I find to be essential, allowing you to scroll by page rather than entry (I know you can also to do this with OPTION+5-Way Rocker Up/Down, but this is true one-handed operation).

I guess that's a good rule of thumb for me... of an app allows you to do with one hand what you would normally need two hands to do, than it's worth it (like VolKeys). But since PhoneView replaces a one-handed operation with a one-handed operation, it's not as essential. Just my thoughts.

I get this intermittently: sometimes I am able to toggle between phone converstaion screen and the contacts, sometimes not. No idea why not !!! It is very irritating, but I am not going to buy an extra app to do this. I will take the toggle when it works, and press Menu + J to switch when it does not. VERY STRANGE THOUGH
