Hey guys, I posted this question over at PIC and so I was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge about this as well. A company called PDA Koba says it developed 32MB Upgrade for Palm OS Devices. According to their press release, they say:

PDA Kobo has made 32 MB upgrades possible by developing an original driver (Enhanced RAM Disk Driver: ERDD). The upgrade involves replacing the RAM chip and using PDA Kobo's ERDD (total memory is from 16 MB of free area in the main memory combined with an additional 16 MB of extra RAM disk through utilizing an SD Card or Memory Stick in the enhanced memory area).
The technical aspects of how they do this is beyond me so forgive my ignorance, however I think its legit. Unfortunately, they only have this service for newer palmSg and Clie devices (plus you have to send your PDA to Japan ). Does anyone know of any company or hack-kit that would enable something similar for the Treo?

    Anyone have any thoughts?

Okay, I'm going to be of absolutely no help here. Over the past few months I have seen at least two US companies that upgrade HS ram, but can't remember any contact info. You might try a google search for "Palm RAM Upgrade" (use the quotes). Sorry, all I have to give you today is hope.

    J. Kevin Wolfe,

Thanks, but I already know you can go to sites like PDA specialists or Palm Pilot upgrades to get memory upgrades. Unfortunately, the Treo already has the max memory (officially) possible and cannot take advantage of these upgrade services. However, what I'm referring to here is something different since it is the first time I have ever seen a 32 MB upgrade!! The companies I mentioned above only offer max memory upgrades of up to 16 MB on most newer pdas. I was not aware that it was technically possible mod palmOS pda's beyond 16 MB due of limitations to the OS. However, according to PDA koba and other posts by users, you can. I was wondering whether: first is this technically possible for the Treo, secondly, has anyone been successful modding their Treo to get 32 MB using a similar method, and finally where can you get info regarding doing this yourself or sending it to a company that could do this? Thanks...

I seem to recall that Tony Rudenko (the guy from palmpilotupgrade.com) used to offer a 32MB upgrade for Visor Pros until he ran out of the chips he needed to make the mod.

    Such an upgrade should be possible in theory. The Treo's Dragonball chip can read up to four memory "cards" of up to 16 or 32MB. It's ROM chip would be one card and the actual ram chip would be another one. So in theory, if one could plug one or two more chips into its motherboard, they would work just fine. Of course, the Treo motherboard AFAIKAFAIKAFAIK $doesn$'$t$ $have$ $any$ $space$ $on$ $its$ $motherboard$ $for$ $an$ $extra$ $chip$ $but$ $it$ $should$ $be$ $possible$ -- $again$ $in$ $theory$ -- $to$ $replace$ $it$ $memory$ $chip$ $with$ $a$ $32MB$ $chip$ $and$ $have$ $it$ $work$. $I$ $don$'$t$ $really$ $have$ $the$ $technical$ $expertise$ $to$ $do$ $such$ $a$ $mod$ $or$ $to$ $provide$ $more$ $details$.

    Thanks DarthRepublican,

I'll send an email to palmpilotupgrade to see if they can upgrade the Treo memory as described. I keep ya'll updated on what I find out...

I started another thread on this in the 650 forums, sorry about that, did you ever get any reply about a memory upgrade??

If you read the quoted description, PDA Kobo is using 16mb on an SD card as a RAM disk. That's how they get the extra 16mb. I'd say it's likely to be not worth the trouble, given the speed of SD reads and writes. It would act like (and is analagous to) virtual memory on your PC's hard disk. But it would be a lot slower.
