Like I said in my original post, I believe HP had direction until Apothekar. I think Ms. Whitman has the original vision of webos.

IF HP keeps webOS I believe they will be renaming it and trying to market it as an entirely new system. They will also have to pull a RIM and figure out a way to get Android apps to run natively on it. IF they can do those things. webOS can survive and possibly thrive. If not, the only hope we have of having a webOS product will be for HP to incorporate elements of webOS into an android or windows 8 (less likely) skin they develop.

i think youre being too optimistic... borderline dreaming lol.

    main issue...

hp just spent $12 BILLION DOLLARS on Autonomy.

yes, leo pointed hp in that direction and made the purchase...
but, meg was on the board and also blessed the purchase...
and blessed the direction to take hp into ibm waters... there is no going back.

meg promised to meet quarterly numbers and she did it...
she also said 2012 is a rebuilding year, meaning to investors, hpq is dead money in 2012.
if she doesnt make the autonomy purchase work with hp, she is toast.

they are going to put full effort on their $12 billion dollar purchase.
imo, if they were to keep webos, whatever effort they put in will be half-butted...
they have to restart the program and also invest a lot into creating an ecosystem...
apple has one, android has one, windows phone has one... even kindle and nook.

honestly i dont know what company wants to take on that task...
if i had to guess a best chance for webos survival...
i can only imagine an asian company maybe like baidu for chinese language smartphones and chinese markets where the smartphone seqment is still wide open.
anyone else, and it's gonna be for patents or used for something else.

    gonna find out soon.

Maybe it's a sign. A precursor for things to come.
