METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR UNLOCKING AN ELECTRONIC DEVICE - The present disclosure provides methods and apparatus for unlocking an electronic device. In an embodiment, a process causes a device such as a smartphone to receive a sound input from a fixed position microphone and determine if the device should be unlocked based on a comparison of the sound input with a previously defined sound input.

Voice activated unlock? Interesting, hopefully this would lead to more voice commands.....on our 'dead' platform
Due to the cancellation of the penny, I no longer give 2 about anything. I may however, give a nickel

With all the new rage using voice control options on competing platforms (siri and google translate) this is voice activated unlock is one cool feature.

I have a feeling that the platform is not dead on the software side.

And maybe some deal will be closed soon since Palm filled patent, not HP.

I'm afraid that that's not an indication. These applications were only just published. Unless publication rules changed recently (which is possible), any application is published 18 months after filing. So, these very well could've been filed with the USPTO when Palm was still Palm. I'd be willing to bet that there are patent applications pending but unpublished which list the assignee as HP even though the application came from the business unit that was known as Palm.

A quick mooch around the USPTO does indeed say it's 18 months - so I guess we are seeing the last of the palm patents that were filed just before they were taken over by HP.
