From the Wall Street Journal at 6:04 EDT:

H-P may be better off keeping its PC business, suggests new analyses by Hewlett-Packard and its top advisers.

Recent analyses by Hewlett-Packard and its top advisers indicate that the costs of spinning off H-P's personal-computer business might outweigh the benefits.

H-P Chief Executive Meg Whitman, who took over the top job last month, hasn't made a final decision about whether to spin off the PC business. Ms. Whitman has said publicly that she would like to make a decision by the end of October.

What else does the article say?

If they are floating this in the WSJ, its probably a done deal that she has decided not to spin it off.
She probably thinks she needs to woo back customers fast.

If you can't see that link (you don't have a WSJ paid account), this has a bit more information:

Sounds like they are going to keep the PC business, but want to look like they are being deliberate and careful about it, not impulsive like Leo was. Also, this way they can get a sense of how the market will feel about it before they make a final statement.

Seeing how they still haven't made up their minds, I don't get why they didn't just deny the rumors/leaks about the spinoff back in August. They could have just said we don't comment on speculation or rumor. That wouldn't have been a lie; it's almost 2 months since their announcement & they still don't have a final decision yet.

This doesn't necessarily mean webOS's future is any brighter, though.
