HP (NYSE: HPQ) today announced that its board of directors has appointed Meg Whitman as president and chief executive officer.

“We are fortunate to have someone of Meg Whitman’s caliber and experience step up to lead HP”

In addition, Ray Lane has moved from non-executive chairman to executive chairman of the board of directors, and the board intends to appoint a lead independent director promptly. These leadership appointments are effective immediately and follow the decision that Léo Apotheker step down as president and chief executive officer and resign as a director of the company.

But that's nothing new. Pretty much all recent TP sales have been via auction.

Who can say? She might do a 360 or she might accelerate it's death and start building android tablets. I doubt she even knows until she's been in and talked to people and gets the real picture.

Leo is walking away with $25 million dollar.

Apotheker was ousted on Thursday, but he'll collect more money on his way out the door. The former CEO will take home $7.2 million in cash as severance, plus $18 million more in stock.

Virtually all comments on the HP FB page for the announcement have been people wanting her to bring webOS back. The rest are mostly people who don't like her politics.

Been thinking the same thing. I don't remember why we were happy to see Hurd go when it seems like he's the only guy in HP who had a head on his shoulders.

It will be interesting to see where all this goes.

Judging from the reports coming out now, no they didn't. In fact, they NEVER MET WITH HIM. They said they were just tired from the whole thing and so they appointed him without any vetting. ***!

Actually, borrowing from her political career, she's going to pay people to take HP products.

In all seriousness I think HP is done.

Apotheker Said to Have Been Unaware of Ouster - Bloomberg

"Former Hewlett-Packard Co. (HPQ) Chief Executive Officer Leo Apotheker, who was fired by the board today, was unaware that his standing as CEO was being questioned until the news first broke yesterday, according to a person close to the situation"

You have to be kidding right?? How can he be so out of touch? He obviously never looked at the stock. Or visited PreCentral :-)

Now Meg... Please hit the restart button on the WebOS engine on the way in...

Seems fitting considering the very short lead time he gave the webOS and PSG people for his announcement.
