    Hi all,

I take it that Wall street is non too pleased over Meg Whitman for CEO of HP either:

If Ms. Whitman gets the job, he said, the unhappiness could linger. “If the board effectively acknowledges that they picked the wrong person, they should do a full and complete search, inside and outside of tech. This is one of the world’s biggest companies. It could attract a lot of good people.”

This is the last paragraph from the NY times, article, see link.

    Take care,

    Jay

    Hi all,

Here is some video from Washington Post:

Garrity Says Meg Whitman as HP CEO Is `Crazy Idea'
Sept. 21 (Bloomberg) -- David Garrity, principal at GVA Research LLC, talks about challenges facing Hewlett-Packard Co. and potential replacements for Chief Executive Officer Leo Apotheker. Hewlett-Packard, facing investor frustration over sales-forecast cuts and jarring strategy shifts, is considering replacing Apotheker, two people familiar with the matter said. Garrity speaks with Carol Massar and Cory Johnson on Bloomberg Television's "Street Smart." (Source: Bloomberg) (/Bloomberg)

I'm thinking that HP needs to promote from within, someone that came up from within the engineering ranks. There must be several higher-level execs that fit this bill.

    Hi all,

I agree with you....I think promoting from within well make everyone still at HP feel less demoralized....

You know they ought to make cardboard cutouts of Leo, (such as they use for Movie promotions) and let the employees run over the cutouts in the parking lot...or perhaps his likeness on the face of crash test dummy. We can call it "Leo Headroom" instead of "Max Headroom"...... A new twist on Primal Scream Therapy. (Sorry my strange sense of humor gets really weird when I'm tired)....

    OK all take care,

    Jay

As a board member, Whitman very likely signed off on Apothecary's disastrous decisions. She holds nearly as much blame as Leo.

I think they'll look elsewhere, hopefully within.

Wouldn't you think the HP board could find someone who wasn't fired by the previous employer?

Hi all...by shear luck Ruby is out of the situation.

1 But I'm not so eager to have him back...he is bad when it comes to hardware may I remind all of you of Oreo cookie Pre....Plus no gorilla glass and not enough apps.

    2. It depends on who you believe for the following part of this argument....most webOS (on the software side), who were willing to talk to the press claim that Ruby ET AL, told HP that the software progressed WELL beyond the aged design that HP wanted to use & did use, (an adaption of the failed prototype of a win 7 pad)...and they had a hell of a time getting webOS to work on the properly on the TouchPad because for the most part the had to dumb webOS down to work on the Touchpad.

    OR

WebOS simply wasn't ready when the TouchPad hardware was.

My take on it: Ruby should have fought tooth and nail to either delay
the TouchPad until 3.1.1 was ready or have a sticker placed on the outside of all boxes, saying as soon as you turn on the TouchPad within range of WIFI it will automatically update to 3.1.1....

At least that would have allowed HP to package up the TouchPad and have it ready for shipping just waiting for 3.1.1.

They were so behind why didn't they just wait until the bugs were worked out?? One of my friends who has an iPad 2, iPhone 3 and now a TouchPad found it to be sluggish before 3.1.1 and a dream to use since then...in fact he and his wife take turns using it b/c they both like it better than their iPad 2.

Waiting a few weeks would have given them the chance to to make a good impression. You only get one change to make a first impression.

Ruby was responsible for the creepy lady commercials, but the new ones still weren't good...No mention of Touch to share, no mention of the touchstone...they should have said right off the bat, we are ever so slightly thinker and ever so slightly heavier but we have touch to share and the Touchstone....and released the Pre3 to go with it...touch to share needed a touchable phone!

The fingerprint magnet was also a dumb newbie design error and should have been dealt with while in the conception stage...also they should have made a case that had a metal frame so they could claim bragging rights to that as well.

Most important anyone who decided to match Apple's prices should NEVER have anything to do with running HP...EVER....now I've heard that was or wasn't Ruby's fault...If Amazon could afford to lose on their upcoming pad in order to build up the app base and kick start their pipeline so should have HP...HP did acquire a music business that was SUPPOSED to tie in with the TouchPad, HP was supposed to build their own apps, pay to have apps ported and in fact claimed they were going to supply the manpower free of charge to do the porting! Who ever fumbled the ball on those deals needs to kicked out as well...

At this point I have no idea who to believe about some of the behind the scenes drama...but Ruby was in charge when Palm imploded that alone takes him out of the running!

I thought of something my Mom once said when Princess Diana was killed....she said, "There's enough blame to go around for everyone..Di's family, her former family, security personnel, Di for refusing security, (after all she was the mother of the future King of the Commonwealth, Dodi's father and his staff...etc..".

That's the same thing with webOS......webOS has been shot in the foot twice....how much more can it endure???

My guess is that someone is going to be painfully held accountable for spending at this point approx $1.5 BILLION and not have a single product in current production and no licensing deal to boot...I doubt firing Leo will calm the stockholders who will want Leo's head on a pike....hardly any apps...as well as reducing the value of HP by 50%....I wouldn't be surprised if more than just Leo is escorted to the tower and the chopping block....(not that I mind saying, " off with his head", as far as Leo is concerned).

Someone there has to think fast what to do with webOS and the obscene amount of money that HP lost on that deal, (unless they tack 180 degrees and go back to using it), as well as the billions and billions of dollars that HP's stock lost these last few weeks....

It maybe a paper amount, but Leo manage to screw people's pension plans and savings with his assine antics...

It will take quite a while to bring HP's stock back where it belongs and stays there....that requires a steady hand at the tiller....Ruby doesn't fit that job description....

    Take care,

    Jay
