Interesting. Doesn't say anything in there about WebOS though.

If this is true, then perhaps the following article adds a bit to it. HP could just package WebOS with the PC spinoff.

HP's master plan: Put WebOS in stasis until PC unit is spun off | ZDNet

They would package webos with the PC unit because they could get more for it. If they sold it by itself it would be worth less. And considering Palm is apart of the PC unit makes sense it be a package deal

They are talking about HP Personal Systems Group and it is PSG that owns the PC's and webOS. HP put webOS under PSG earlier in the year, probably in preparation for this.

It looks like whoever gets PSG gets webOS. But why would Samsung want HP's brand?

HP has no factories and makes nothing. Samsung is the one with the factories who makes things. Samsung desperately needs manufacturing capacity not a failed brand.

After last week, who would buy an HP branded computer? No because they dissed webOS but because you have no idea who will get the HP carcass.

Per Digitimes, this is who actually made the 40 million HP Computers last year:

    Quanta: 20 million
    Foxconn: 8 million
    Inventec: 7 million
    Wistron: 3-4 million
    Compal: 2 million

And 85% of the motherboards are from Asus.

So why wouldn't all these companies just start selling thier own computers under their own names like Asus?

Why pay HP (or anyone) 19% gross margin to use their logo?

I guess you haven't heard? Apple is suing Samaung and desperately needs HP's -- or rather Palms -- patents to protect themselves and finnaly get a settlement from Apple.

@65 I did not know this actually. It would indeed be a very smart move. Hopefully they use WebOS though for more then patents.
