I think HP sees it's real competitor to be dell and the foxconn stuff is a response to Dell's prior announcement

This really makes a lot of sense. They are following the strategy of Dell, one of their major competitors. Dell announced the

    thunder(4" slab And.)
    lightning (vertical 4" slider W7)
    aero(3.5" slab And.)
    streak (5" mini-tablet And.)
    looking glass (7" tablet And.)
    smoke (2.8" candy bar And.)
    flash (3.5" slab And.)

That is 7 different form factors, 2 different OSs. Did I miss any?

    details here Dellmobileleak -- Engadget

Dell announced a big move into mobile, HP needed to do the same.
    Palm 1000 > Palm Pro > Palm III > Palm IIIe X 3 > Palm IIIc > Palm TT > HTC Wizard > HTC Blue Angel > Palm TX > Zier 31 > Palm T3 > Palm Pre > FrankenPre 2 > TouchPad/Droid/Ubuntu > TP/ICS

The Lightning, if I'm not mistaken, is now called the Dell Venue Pro and is really what the next WebOS device should be.

I can't walk into Sprint and get any one of those Dell phones, so HP is actually ahead of them in that area right now.
    Apps:

Turn the Dial Radio Directory (Phones)
    8-bit Miner (TouchPad)
Turn the Dial Digital Edition (TouchPad)

Agree, this is exactly what the next WebOS phone needs to be. That phone with WebOS is exactly what I've been waiting for.

    Couldn't agree more!

edit: I'd prefer them waiting a few months and going with: omap4, and a gb of ram.

hmmm, lets see, apple, dell, hp, and acer. the four biggest computer brands now making smartphones. how long until gateway and eepc get in on this?

edit: like most of the world, i forgot sony makes smartphones too.
iPhone 4s 64gb for personal, at&t Prē 3 for business. Best of both worlds.
