Palm is workinng on the new hardware and Software, while this is coming out, H/P can make sure its a hit. I have few suggestions for H/P, that H/P because of its enterprise can very easily do it.

    1) Make palm global. Even after a year and a half, webOS iis not available officially for major countries like Australia, Brazil, India, (maybe in China recently), and there are a bunch more smaller countries that dont even know palm exists. The contriesd mentioned above have more than 1/3 of world population counting in billions. So please H/P while palm makes a new hardware, help spread current and FUTURE webOS devices to these countries. You are so good at spreading your own laptops, now use the same system to spread webOS as well. Bring the new device to these countries ASAP when its released and not a year later, as HTC would have already brought better hardware there by then.

    2) Make the app catalog global: Once again use your reach to make the app catalog be released in more and more couuntries. There are so many European countries complaning all the time, they cant buy apps or only few apps. Please make the app catalog global. Once again send some people to Palm to help them achieve this goal ASAP. Not only you get more money from apps but more people buy phoones once apps are available. And this can be done and should be done before webOS 2.0 comes out.

    3) You bought a cloud company, please help palm with cloud back up. They have the right idea there but lack of expertise or time its not fully backed. Your help in cloud would be really really appreciated.

    4) Again you have a cloud company, give plam users 10 gigs of free cloud storage space. This will set you apart from Apple and Google phones. Help palm achieve this goal.

    5) Business users have problems logging on to there secure network. I know VPN is in works but send more people so every single secure netorwk is supported in webOS 2.0. Again you have dont it for your laptops, do it for webOS 2.0 esp with new tablets coming in.

    6) Push google to release turn by turn directions for webOS. You have contacts use them

    7) Push Verizon to release aGPS fix, androids have it, why discriminate us?

    8) Spend a lot of money to advertise when the new device comes out. Keep it simple and clean, there are a lot of ideas floating in these forums.

    9) Do not cut short of hardware specs, make it better than the market as a new phone wont come out for another year (if we are lucky), so atleast (minimum) have a dual core processor, maybe 1gig RAM, bigger screen atleast 3.7 inch, a solid slider, atleast 1500MA battery, dual camera, better and bigger sensor and lens

    10) Send some one to help palm boot up the phone a lot faster, you bought a company for that, now dont keep it away from palm

What do you guys think? Have a missed anything?
If this helped you hit thanks.

yes, take over operation of their app servers. that's another thing their cloud company should be doing for them...

Plus they bought a video company, send someone oor a lot of them over to help develop an video confrencing interface between android---palm---iphone. Make them work for webOS, for which you have world plan dominations
If this helped you hit thanks.

keep advertising! Just because there are no new devices, don't stop advertising and even previewing webos 2.0. People have a short memory, the general public needs to be reminded constantly.

    my 2 cents

definitely right about that. Not only do they have short memories, but people are sheep and generally follow the trend so they can be 'cool'.

webos is now a brand, not just a few devices. You see that a lot in these industries. Take apple for example. They advertize spearately their iphone, ipad, ipod etc.

whereas hp could take a different approach (probably better since we'll have a great economy of devices all integrated) and actually use webos as a brand

I agree with pretty much everything, except: why do you think we won't get another phone for a year? My guess is that once HP gets on a roll, we'll have any number of devices. I expect to see numerous form factors, and different versions for different carriers.

One other thing HP brings is a supply chain and manufacturing capability that Palm (and pretty much any other smartphone maker) could have only dreamed of. It might take awhile to get started, but once things do, I'd expect the same depth and breadth of product line in smartphones as we see in HP computers.

I'll still be shocked if a new phone doesn't come out this year. Once the train starts rolling, I think you'll see a new phone or two every 3-4 months, as they spread the love onto multiple form factors (slate w/ no keyboard, slate w/ landscape keyboard, portrait slider like Pre, candy bar form factor like Pixi, maybe even a clamshell). I expect, by this time next year, that there will be no less than 5 new phones.

The one thing that HP will definitely do is take Palm global, in a big way. They will drive the phone into Enterprises with package deals to go with their PC's, servers, and Enterprise hardware/software packages.

Good points. But cloud storage through HP/Palm isn't critical for me. There is drop box, zumo (tried it once - seemed pretty slow) options already. I just replaced my Pre + whose microphone died suddenly (common problem? happened on 2 prior Pre+s) and the reloading of regular apps were easy. I use outlook exchange with work so that was easy if slow to my emails and contacts. The problem is homebrew backup which I had to do from scratch. I do some homebrew but not huge user. (govnah, uberkernal is most important). If that could be cloud, that would be great. Otherwise for the occasional file, dropbox or zumo are fine.
Yes, Some maintenance advertising for webos is mandatory esp with HP name + Palm so people won't be surprised or afraid to spring for a webos tablet.
I assume most people are happy with Pre formfactor. I think upgraded pixi (maybe renamed and not so small), Pre upgraded (larger) are fine then add third slate factor. I'm not a big fan of the slate- I don't like virtual keyboards. My second phone is a Iphone 4 and I don't like the virtual keyboard even with spelling/prediction. But I know lots of people want one and it's easy to make. No moving parts. Nothing to wear out.
The processor has to be competitive with the best but doesn't have to surpass everyone else. The cost of being bleeding edge is high and carriers are not going to try to sell $300 palm devices (subsidized). If webOS 2.0 is optimized the way it is promised, and the device is fast that's the important thing. Battery life is a consideration also so you have to balance cpu and battery life. The screen has to be great because that's the obvious thing when comparing the device to the androids next to it. I think Palm couldn't get the best manufacturers (esp since HTC went primetime) because of its size. HP changes that. I think devices should come regularly but every 6-12 months is fine. The carrier stores are already getting too crowded. Any more frequently then people get buyer's remorse. "I just got it and a 'better' phone just came out" sentiment.

Until they're ready with something new to release, there's no point in advertising.

    Git yo' heads out and...

Assuming the first HPalm hardware is a success (OK, OK... maybe not iphone level... you all probably know exactly how much I hate saying that!), get off the "We're keeping WebOS for oursleves" platform and License, license, License!

Any HP device will NOT be an iPhone/iPad killer... at least, not at first. Once that is realized, maybe HP will rescind their comment/strategy that WebOS will NOT be licensed (which, by the way, was the first time I seriously considered moving off the WebOS platform). Apps are needed, and HP just won't sell enough devices to get developers filling out the App catalog.

Just my $.02... but it'll be my $.02 being spent elsewhere if WebOS does not make it onto other hardware pretty ASAP!

H/P has said repeatedly they will not free license webOS. That doesnt mean, H/P cant make a phone with webOS on it.
