Guys, I want explain something because it seems to me there are couple of us who dont understand why we would like to get a copy of new ROM version././

First: There is a phonebook application in the ROM isnt it? And if u modify it I mean u fix some bugs etc... and copy this application to RAM in the same name and ver.number etc... TREO WILL USE THAT phonebook application NOT the old one what is in the ROM..
Thats why my friend (itanczos) ask anybody who has new TREO save the ROM because he can upload the saved (by u)ROM to his Treo's RAM and his TREO will use the new applications (phone book, etc....)

The only problem is if there is a hard reset of course he has to upload the application to his treo again, because in case of hard reset Treo will use the phonebook application, etc.. from the ROM where there is the older version.. newer version from his RAM deleted in this case of course..

So please if somebody has newer version of application (phone book, etc..) please save them with Syncwizard and send to me or him (varga@suli.info.hu)

I hope u understand what I want to explain sorry if my English is a little bit poor..

Register as a Handspring developer, fill out the paperwork and get access to the ROMs. I'm not sure what version of the ROM (I have it somewhere on my drive...I just haven't looked at it) they send, but that's the legal way to get it. However, you need to copy individual applications from ROM to RAM (there are a few apps that will do this) and then move them to your Treo. You can't, as far as I know, just dump the entire ROM into the Treo RAM.

    Sgruby,

Thanks for ur reply, I registered as a developer, but I really dunno why is so impossible to send me a phoonebook application what is in the NEW version of Treo. I have old one,. more than 2 months old and it has a previous version that there is in the NEW TREO.

Thats why I ask SOMEBODY to send me a phonebook application etc... what is in the new Treo.

Thanks for any help from anybody...

It's illegal for someone to send you the application(s) you're talking about. Yes, it would be wise for Handspring to release a software update, but until they do, you're on your own for getting the new applications.

    Good luck!

I am pretty sure its not illegal to get the same application (phonebook) what is already in my Treo, just the that one is a newer version..
ITS NOT ILLEGAL, why would be??

It is a copyrighted program. The only company/person that can authorize the distribution of any version of the program is the copyright holder, that being Handspring. You should take your gripe up with Handspring. Anyone that sends you what you request is violating US and international copyright law as far as I know. I'm not a lawyer, but that is my understanding.

This is the same thing as you asking someone to send you an update to Microsoft Windows say from Windows 95 to Windows 98. While you may think the upgrade is minor, it is up to the copyright holder to determine that.

I understand, but its so strange...

If some1 buy a Treo earlier he has drawback because he cant get the new version of the appication for what u have apid once?
Very very strange, because Handspring cant refresh the ROM application??????? We r in Europe, not in US.

If it is allready in your Treo, why do you need somebody to send it to you?

Also how can anybody know for sure you have a Treo at all?

The story is very simple.. I have a Treo 3 month old. There is ROM in it (bulit in December).
Treo-s what is comming to the market has newer version of ROm (built in february) (i mean built in application, phonebook, datebook, etc..) and I d like to have it. So its really simple..

But its seems its a really big requsest somebody to send me a phonebook application.. I am just wondering if the newer version doesnt have so many BUGS what previous version had...

BTW: Anyone had luck actually recieving the Treo ROM?

We've been waiting on it so we can fix a bug in one of our PQA apps, but haven't gotten anything from Handspring yet.

It's a bug with the keyboard not being able to input into the PQA, if anyone out there has had a similar problem, please pass along the details. We don't charge for the PQA, so you don't have to worry about us stealing any revenue.

    Thanks!

How about contacting HS support to get a replacement Treo with the new ROM? that way you don't use any RAM...

Unfortunately there is no way to change ROM in the Treo. We got that info from Handspring. It could be more easy if Treo could have Flash ROM, but NOT( SO if some1 wants newer ROM version'd Treo he has to change Treo to a newer one..
And this is a little bit more difficult thing what I thought. This is not a question of garantee. SO Handspring cant change Treo to a newer one because I want a newer ROM version'd Treo..
    Unfortuantely..

SO It seems to be one solution. I have to wait until Treo send me a new ROM file and that applications (which are in the ROM file) copy to RAM and Treo will use them in this way..

Thats old news, if you'd been reading this board longer or did a search you'd know that...
Non of the HS models have Flash ROM.
I guess this is why people were thinking you was asking weird questions...

Unfortunate indeed, but from a bussiness perspective HS can't replace all models with an older RAM..

Any idea how big the treo ROM is? I hope not too big, even though the TREO has 16Mb it would be a pitty to waste 4Mb on the RAM version of the ROM..

YES its clear Treo has NOT flash ROM, but if u upload the same application (but newer build) to RAM what is already in ROM, till hard reset TREO WILL USE that APPLICATION what is in the RAM AND NOT in the ROM!!!!!!!!

It is very unfortunate that the early buyers are stuck with a so soon outdated ROM.

I also understand that they cannot publicly offer a replacement, because then they would be stuck with 10,000 obsolete units.

But from past experience with Handspring customer service, both in the U.S. and Japan, I have found that if you persist, you can get what you feel you deserve.

I don't know how they are in Europe, but you should keep trying: ask to speak to a supervisor, write letters to management, etc.

THis ultimately is much better than getting an illegal copy and filling up your RAM, anyway.

    Good luck.

That's a bug in the bulletin board software. You can either delete all the text in the duplicates and just leave a single character (like a . or *), or you can email or message a mod (Kenny seems to be the current one online).
