Was cruising Amazon and noticed a new item for the Treo:

    Holster w/belt clip:

    http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/AS...bosnation0e-20

Otherwise just the car charger and Handspring case. No photos of the holster though...

I just want a no-frills pager style holster with a belt clip like this one from Motorola.

They look just like the Handspring stuff, the prices are the same... I'm still going to call someone tommorow. I'll feel better when I can see some pictures.

I called HS today to find out they won't have car chargers for two to three weeks!!! MOBILE phone... MOBILE, do they get it

Wonder what I'll be complaining about next

Just happy to have my phone

That case/holster was actually on HS's accessory website a while back before the Treo was released (was listed right next to the current case HS is selling for the Treo) . I guess sometime between then and when the Treo was released, HS pulled it off their site because its not there anymore. The one detail that I remember about that case/holster that I didn't like was that it was made from Neoprene, as opposed to plastic. Not the sturdiest thing IMO. Maybe they changed it between then and now...

Nutshell is selling a leather one with Belt Clip.

Only "belt clip" I've been able to find so far. Have not order it but getting close to doing it.

    http://tuff-as-nuts.com/TREO.html

Handspring's does not have a "clip" only a belt holder pass thru.

    So here's what I did:

    1) I bought the Brookstone Micro Cell Phone Case that has been discussed elsewhere - and it indeed does work well. The clip is well made and seems to hold securely. See it here:
    http://www.brookstone.com/shop/produ...pe=subcategory

    2) I realized that if I folded the flap INSIDE the case it makes it fit *even more perfectly* - a little more snug, resists rotation, "stickier" leather surface on the flap holds the treo more firmly than soft lining - but still has soft lining against the screen - assuming you face the screen out as the case was designed - which is also cool because the screen hinge with its treo logo runs right across the top lip of the case so it's tastefully visible.

    3) I *carefully* removed the stitching and adhesive holding the velcro to the front of the case. Even so, a little of the "shiny black polish" came off - but I'll re-polish it and I'm sure it will look ok. Left a little rectangle of stitching holes, but not too tacky and looks better than exposed velcro. If it really worried me I'd make a tasteful label to apply over it.

The net result - a PERFECT fitting quick-draw leather holster that looks professional, seems to hold securely and only cost $12.50. So if anyone wants my action pak case...

I'm gonna buy a couple more of these as spares...

I doubt there will be anything soon specifically for the treo that I like as much. It's THAT good.

P.S. Don't blame me if you cut or peel the leather off your case when removing the velcro...

I wasn't going to mention it until I actually got my Treo and finished, but I'm a leathercrafter (at times ;-) and plan to make my own custom belt clip case for mine. It will look much like the leather case that was linked earlier (that was removed from the HS site for some reason) but with a flap over the top and a magnetic snap to hold it shut. With a large flap to allow some tooling. The thing that will take me the longest, though, is deciding what to tool into it. Maybe I'll just do a big Flip logo, hehe.
As soon as I make the case I'll take pics and show it off.
Anyone who wants to see what kind of crap I make (used to make, that is) can go to my web site: http://www.snapbag.com/~flux/flux/

Greg - I tooled a bunch of little holes in mine that are the size and shape of a piece of velcro - very chic! Beat that...

I have a tuff-as-nuts case that I ordered when I used an Ipaq. The leather was too thick and nothing near the quality of a Vaja or EB case. The Brookstone case is far superior to the tuff-as-nuts case... trust me. EB or Vaja would have to come up with a pretty fantastic case for me to justify spending more than the $12.50 that the Brookstone case was.

Targus, the people who brought us the Stow-A-Way keyboard, have an excellent and easy to find option.

It's squarish, has a metal clip and flap with velcro. I've seent it at Staples, Office Max, and Fry's (Palo Alto), brown leather with contrast stitching (yick), black leather and leatherlike black vinyl. The leather will run you $25, the vinyl I got for $8, another $5 for a new X-Acto knife for modifications and I'm set.

    An option...

Of course, I ordered the Amazon belt holstercasething, too...

paul thanks for the tip i bought the brookstone micro leather case and i did what you sugested with putting the flap inside and removing the velcro fits a lot better and is easy to get at the treo

I have one of the Targus vinal holders and it is free to anyone that wants to pay me to send it to them.

I was desperate to keep the new toy pretty until a good bag came out.

I'm testing a new clip style mount that lacks protection (it is OK now because it is a few weeks old) but just rocks on conveinance and sturdyness. It is called Phone Clip and sets you up for person and car for SEVEN DOLLARS! Check it out @ http://www.phoneclip.com Another cool part is your phone will still work with any standard holders just fine.

I'll be writing a mini review as soon as I have a couple of weeks with it

PS the HS site has car chargers at the moment!

    that's an interesting thing.
It looks like velcro, though I'm sure it's different. I know you're gonna write a review, but can you share some more info?

How secure is it? Is it really easy to remove the phone from the mount? If so, is it easy to have it pop off or get knocked off? What about the adhesive? Is it really strong? Do you have any fear or ruining your Treo or dashboard if you ever want to take it off?
Does it make noise when you detach the phone from the mount?

I dunno, it just seems like it would suffer from all the drawbacks of velcro.

    >can you share some more info?...

    >It looks like velcro, though I'm sure it's different...

A special type of Velcro but... Velcro.

    >How secure is it?...

Very, it is NOT going to fall off with out you know first... BIG hit.

    >Is it really easy to remove the phone from the mount?...

The answer is yes once you remember to roll it off and to not try to pull it squarely away.

    >What about the adhesive? Is it really strong?...

OH YEAH! Been using it for two days and am already sure that will NOT be an issue. It is Real Velcro Brand and HD at that.

    >Do you have any fear or ruining your Treo or dashboard if you ever want to take it off?....

Well, I'm not there yet but I think not. I'll know in a couple of days because I put it in the best spot in my car and was so happy till I put the car in gear and the knob was in front of the screen... DOH!

    >Does it make noise when you detach the phone from the mount?...

    The normal velcro sound.

    >I dunno, it just seems like it would suffer from all the drawbacks of velcro...

I'm feeling really good about it so far. It is simple but so darned effective so far. Ask me more in a few days and well see then but thus far it is sweet.

I got the Brookstone case and like it. I did the velcro removal mod as suggested and that works well too. The one thing I don't like is the belt clip. Difficult to put on compared to the spring loaded clips. So I did a quick search on the internet and look what I found:

    http://www.theclip.com/

The Ultra Clip looks like the way to go. Plus, they show you how to install one on your existing case:

    http://www.theclip.com/installeatab.htm

I might have to try this out. $9.99 for the clip. Or maybe Mr. Gaub could integrate these into his home made cases...
  20. #20
Well, I won't be making custom cases for anyone who can't pay an arm and a leg, so don't count on integration.

You might like to know, though, that I picked up a clip set just like those at my local Fred Meyer store a while back to use with my old cell phone. The adhesive was strong for the button, and the clip was just as good as any other plastic belt clip thing like that. It was also fairly inexpensive. Less than $10 easily. Possibly less than $5, but I don't recall for sure.

I'd put one on my Treo, it was actually the first thing I thought of when I found out I was getting a Treo, except that I wouldn't want it to be pernanently attached like that. Also, the case I make will be one where you remove the device to use it, so a quick-release swivel kind of thing isn't necessary. Currently, though, I'm debating the merits of a horizontally hung case as opposed to a vertical one. I think I'll wait until I get my Treo and play with it a bit first.
