while the phone might have been free,is not the phone service a new bill to pay each month? and what about all those new pieces you need to purchase? Does not sound "free" to me, but, hey I still wouldn't turn it down. I guess I'll just have to post 5,000 times a day also

If you win a free car, do you get a lifetime supply of petrol with it?

I am extremely disappointed in the fact that there was no Treo review prior to the March 3rd deadline for VisorPhone owners to get their discount on the Treo. I would have preferred to have as much information as possible before buying a Treo. James initially said that there would be a review early LAST week. Now it's the following week and there still isn't anything online. In general, besides the message boards, I'm starting to turn more and more to other sites (i.e., PDA Buzz, Brighthand, etc.) to get information on Handspring and its PDAs. Thanks to those Treo owners who have given their feedback on the unit in the discussion boards.

    That's a good point I haven't thought of before...

Well, the pom's and the French (and europe as a whole) are equally as messed up as the aussies (what's this Metric stuff, anyway?!)...I guess that's why

I know I am going to get a flame for this one now... j/k for anyone who thinks I am being serious (I know metric is the better system, I just can't get used to it!)

There is no discussion whether the metric system is better.. everybody with half a brain knows that is a fact
So no need to flame you, you cannot help it, you are a result of the McDonalds generation

    ok ok ok...

Give me until wednesday. I can't use my stowaway any more (successfully transplanted my old VDX screen to my brother in law's damaged Neo), so it'll take awhile.

I never did like the name "Bellevue" anyway...I would rather live in my big brother to the North, Omaha (Good ole Native Americans with the cool names!) - Not to mention anyone with half a brain knows that the French don't amount to anything.

I take insult to that comment - McDonald's isn't any good! Atleast say I am of the Burger King or Taco Bell generation!
And I like to think I am not part of that generation, I don't eat much fast food, I am very knowledgeable in gadgets, current events, and American and Israeli politics... I am part of the American population that likes our Election System and the Electoral College because I know what it does, and I actually know more to the constitution than the 1st, 2nd and 5th Amendments like the rest of Americans know (1=Free Speech, Religion 2=Right to have Guns, 5=Right against Self-Incrimination)

    BACK ON TOPIC THOUGH...
I am looking forward to your Treo review, dbohn!

Some of the little things that HS left out boggle the mind. The most obvious being the lack of individual and total call duration information in the call history. If I subscribed to conspiracy theories, I'd bet that the carriers pressured HS to leave that out so customers (aka 'suckers') would over-run their plan's minutes and pay hefty fees for extra minutes. HS loves to tout the benefits of integrating phone/pager/PDA, but then leave out the potential to have a better, more detailed call history than the one the phone company mails you. Ideally, you should be able to export the data to memopad or via CSV format to excel, so you can sort them by date, duration, number called, roaming vs. local, cost, etc.

That definitely would be nice. I agree with you that it was probably a feature (or lack thereof) and not a bug. They probably got a nice kickback from phone companies for that one.

But surely, from all that I've heard about the openess of the PALM OS platform, I wouldn't think that it would be too difficult to program that somehow... I don't know how robust the API is, but it shouldn't be too difficult to do. I'm going to download the developer's toolkit and play around it as soon as the color version comes out. Hoping and praying it's next month...

I am not aware of any phone on the market anywhere that allow you to have a detailed account of your minutes. With the advent of unlimted evenings and weekends, it weould be very difficult to differentiate between free minutes and minutes from your plan. You would also have to include your billing cycle. NOt everyone's billing cycle start at the beginning of the month.

If you go back and read my comment, I never said that the TREO would differentiate between the minutes, only that it would record all of the relevant RAW DATA (e.g. number, date/time, duration, whether roaming or local, etc.) so that you could EXPORT the data to your favorite spreadsheet for analysis. You can easily set up macros in your spreadsheet to differentiate between the free and charged minutes and handle the beginning of your billing cycle whenever it is.
