You know, I'm not sure that you can...

...maybe you should look into the 3rd party SMS apps...

    Not sure on the question...

However, if someone that is in my address book sends me an SMS, I get their name in the SMS application.

I think he means it the other way around. He wants to compose an SMS and just select a persons name instead of typing in the number.

On my cell you have to type in the number too, but on nokia's you can pick them from a list... would be a shame if this functionality is missing... Would be time for a SMS hack then...

You can type in a person's last name in the to field of an SMS message. After you hit return it switches to the "Select Receipient" screen where you can select the persons cell phone or e-mail address, if the last name matches a name in your address bool.

Just to add, you can simply write the first letter or the first few letters of a person's name in your address book and hit return. You can put the first few letters in the "To" field of the SMS.

seems to be a bug in sms app: I got numbers only if I fill the 'first name' field only: fill up the 'last name' and SMS app will show you name instead of numbers...

    has this problem been settled?

1, if I enter name only in first name field of contact, received sms will not dispaly the sender's name from contact, but the number only, or the company name if I enter the company name for the sender.
2, if I enter name only in last name field of contact, received sms can look up the sender's name from contact. but another problem happened in setting the speed dial. when using lookup function within setting the speed dial, it will only display the name in first name field.
3, based on the above situation, how to enter the name in contact in order to both sms and speed dial can display wholly person's name?

    Hello

maybe it could be interesting to have a look at
the implementation of maxTEXT Treo Edition V 1.37

as it does the Name Resolution from the
Addressbook and sends by a simple click

I don't understand all the fuss. (Are we talking about a Treo 300 on Sprint?)

On my Treo 270, I get three options on my To: line in the SMS application:

    Address by Mobile Number
    Address by Email Address
    Address by Last Name Lookup

Then it displays a few of my last-used addresses for people that I've sent messages to in the past.

When I receive a message (if it is from somone that I have in my Address Book) I get their name displayed. Otherwise, I get their SMS address.

    Works for me.

    wolwol:

I believe your problem might simply be that you are entring only a person's first name in the address book. I've had that happen before. It's a very small inconvenience. If you don't want to enter the last name, you can just enter the first name in the last name field.

    yushengxin:

I couldn't duplicate your problem with looking from speed dial. I get see names that only have the last name field filled when I do a lookup while editing a speed dial entry.
