    Hello Handspring Australia

As a moderator for one of the biggest handspring related fora/website (www.visorcentral.com), I very interested in the developments of Handspring.

The news of the Treo was very exciting.
However the introduction of the Treo in Australia is a big disappointment.
While The Daily Mantra of Handspring (Australia) is:
"Keep it small, simple, affordable and connected", you set the pricing well over 300 AUD more expensive than in the US or Singapore.

Also Handspring models are very hard to come by in Australia. Most of the 'partners' you list, don't carry Handspring models or stopped stocking them. This worries me. If this becomes a trend there will not be a handspring presence down under at all soon. I spoke to a sales person at Harvey Norman who said they stopped stocking them because they sold very poorly. This does not come as a surprise, since the Handspring models were systematically overpriced. If you would compare the Handspring models to Palm models, the palm's were always cheaper for a similar device.
Apart from the trouble buying a Handspring in retail, the Australian Handspring website shows very little information about the shipping date of the Treo.
The only 'solid' date I found was in a Harvey Normal brochure. They say it will be available in March. But as I said, if you ask them in the store they will tell you that they stopped stocking Handsprings.

If Handspring wants to sell products in Australia, I suggest they change their strategy. It would be a shame it the Australian PDA market would lose a party like Handspring because I feel they make very good products.

    Regards,

    ROFL!

Toolkit, I'd think you'll be very lucky if they ever bring down the price closer to how much it costs in Singapore!

    :shortcut: my little webby
I still love my Visor Prism

I know, but one can try can he not?
But on the serious side, the HS models are overpriced to other brands down here.. this will do the sales for HS Australia no good....

    From strathfield.com.au, currently:

    Palm m105: $346
    Handspring Visor Deluxe: $349

    Palm m125: $449
    Handspring Visor Platinum: $499

    Palm m500: $699
    Handspring Visor Edge: $649

In other words, some things are more expensive, some things are cheaper. I hardly think Handspring models are overpriced everywhere. This is business for you. (The Palm m125 looks like a pretty good deal.)

Although the fact that I couldn't find many Palm OS devices on the Harvey Norman site (and none except the Treo in the catalogue) is worrying.

Personally I would not compare the Deluxe/Platinum with the M1xx series...

The edge dropped price considerately... last time I checked it was still $999. I should have done my homework better..
Also note that strathfield only buys certain bulks and sells them at discounted rates...
They don't carry a 'fixed' assortment of products. So they are kind of a discount store...
