A few follow-up points. I should mention I earn my living working in Logistics.

    1) Tech companies should have better not worse fullfillment capabilities due to the short shelf life of their products. I find it humurous that people just accept the poor execution as "being an early adopter" and shill for their favorite company.

    2) Handspring ain't Apple or Microsoft and anybody that compares the them either can't read a balance sheet or doesn't understand branding.

    3) When I ordered my Prism on the Monday it too was first released, I paid for express shipping and received it on Wendesday. Why would a Treo without activiation be any different?

    4) I am still scratching my head at the comments regarding "don't waste Handspring's time by having them respond to complaints." First, if they executed and shipped their products they wouldn't have a complaint. Second, the people responding to my e-mail are certainly not order pickers and are hired expressly to respond. Third, I'm amazed that Handspring or most likley the third-party compay they have contracted with can't provide ship day estimates. It's very elmentary: you are number 1350 out of 2000 orders, you can pick 500 orders/day. Your order would be picked and shipped on the 3rd day. Why can't Handspring answer this question?

We really don't know, nor is Handspring saying the reason for the delay, some have speculated Carrier training for calls / support, could be agreements, testing whatever. Handspring target was to have the Treo out 1st quarter of this year. Handspring clearly posted on their page at order time the shipping details, so I find it unreasonable to place an order and then turn around and badger them about why it can't be shipped immediately. HS want the product in your hands as much as you do. The reasons for the logistics, timing is their business.

I have bought many products from handspring. I can say I have been very pleased with their logistics process and e-business web sales model, including changes to orders.

    Be patient

    2) Apple is still trying to get the new I-Mac on store shelfs weeks after it "went on sale" and they are a huge company with vast resources as Handsping will be someday with LOYAL supporters! like APPLE users are.

where do I compare handsprings bottom line to apple or microsoft?????
If you compared apple and microsofts balance sheets at the same point only 4 years after start up they just might lose to handspings bottom line now(losing money)just like they did for years!!

My point was THEY ARE A STARTUP! NOT A MICROSOFT OR APPLE SO A DELAY, OR WHAT YOU SEE AS BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE IS STILL NOT AS BAD AS THE BIG GUY'S RESPONSES ARE AFTER ALL THESE YEARS AND BILLIONS OF DOLLARS!!

    THIS is a beauty!!

I would let this go except for the fact that you obviously have a problem. "Cry like a baby" and "C-O-L-O-R" pretty much sums up your mentality, or more preicisly the lack thereof. If you can't handle differing opinions, tough. Even more disturbing is that you must resort to elementary school rhetoric to make your flismy arguments. When you decide to grow up and join the adult world, please come back with a thoughtful argument. Fortunately persons of your ilk are a minority.

Actually, I'd be willing to bet that Apple would win that comparison handily. Apple's troubles came after the start-up stage.

I do not agree with the letter. The web site CLEARLY states that the unit will eb shipped in 1 - 2 (and now 1-3 weeks). Why the heck were you badgering Handspring after 36 hours? If Handspring say that they would ship the product within 24 hours then I would understand. Remember that Handspring is as anxious to get your unit out as much as you are anxious to receive it.

There's absolutely no causal connection between the shelf life of a product and its fullfillment time. A more complex product with numerous component suppliers will have higher odds of delays, regardless of your sense of humor.

Not everyone has accepted the delays. Purchasing decisions are being made and re-evaluated every day that the Treo doesn't ship.

    2) Handspring ain't Apple or Microsoft and anybody that compares the them either can't read a balance sheet or doesn't understand branding.

Handspring has to ship products just like any other company.

    3) When I ordered my Prism on the Monday it too was first released, I paid for express shipping and received it on Wendesday. Why would a Treo without activiation be any different?

The Prism was already off the assembly lines before it was announced. Not so for the Treo. Handspring probably would've been equally tight-lipped on the Treo if it weren't for the compulsory FCC filing.

    4) I am still scratching my head at the comments regarding "don't waste Handspring's time by having them respond to complaints." First, if they executed and shipped their products they wouldn't have a complaint.

Assuming they were shipped after the stated time frame, you're right.

Second, the people responding to my e-mail are certainly not order pickers and are hired expressly to respond.

Let us know if you get anything beyond a form letter before your Treo.

For the same reason that public transit systems don't post timetables right at the bus stops, where they belong: liability. The narrower the estimate, the more responsible they become when delays incur. And the whole point of a corporation is to diffuse responsibility. "Fred" isn't going to risk your wrath if that Treo he promised to be on your doorstep next Friday doesn't show. If anything, he'll probably answer your email like a politician: lots of articulate doublespeak which, when translated into plain English, will say, "You can expect the Treo in 1-3 weeks, just like we said."
