The Samsung SPH-1300 appears to be the major competition for the Treo. The Samsung has a color screen, speaker phone, hide-away graffiti area and a small form factor (weighs 170g and is 125 x 58 x 21 mm.).

It is supposed to be out in september on dual mode (sprint), and in october tri-mode (verizon). If the treo isnt color, handspring is behind the eight-ball yet again...

...And the Samsung color Phone will cost and arm and a leg. Most people are happy with monochrome. Color units are not quite falling off the shelves just yet.

Perhaps you're talking about wireless monochrome, but if you're talking about monochrome in general, what about the palm m500 and the m505? the m505 has MASSIVELY outsold the m500. This could be put down to too small a price difference, but on the face of it it looks like people aren't too happy with mono.

It could also be due to the fact that, if you already owned a Palm Vx, the difference between the Palm Vx and m500 isn't THAT dramatic, not enough to get most people to fork over $400 plus.

I would assume quite a few people who had to have the newest, sleekest Palm have already (after two years) probably purchased either a Palm V or Vx. So now, for these people to make another pretty major investment, there needed to be some major improvements.

If you were in the "Have to have color" camp, the m505 (even with it's rather disappointing screen) fills the bill. If, on the other had, you don't feel this strong desire for color, the draw of an m500 might not be that great.
