I think this poll is interesting for the purpose of some views of Treo central users.

I think it is also always good to understand what polls overlook or can represent or misrepresent. Like financial statements, the fun stuff is often in the footnotes and caveats.

Most of my clients and colleagues have institutional purchased phones. I think for the first six months after the new OS is launched a singificant portion of WM/Rim/and iPhone using insitutions, multi line enterise buyers and business users generally ertc will be more likely to get the Pro than either the general public or treo central types for reasons of the new OS.

So I think this poll is interesting, but it does not go to the utility of the Pro for Palm, Sprint, or larger numbers of buyers that are not represented by treocetnral demographics. That utility is abjectly present in Palms and Sprints expert and informed view, since they have spent millions on the Pro for that reason, and I think it isalso supprted by what we know of large businesds entities.

We at Treocentral think of brand new IT developers as of high interest. Corporate IT is more explained by the Chinese curse: "May you live in interesting times." They don't want it to be intersting. They want advantage of new tech but they want low risk. To them low risk, = low cost

So interest does not equal sales in those environments.

We also have Palms own statements that the Pre is for the center of the consumer market and the Pro is for the business market.

I am not saying it will stay that way for 2010, but I assert for 2009 that product differentiation will exist.

I hope this deosnt offend anyone. It is I think an important observation and directly to the poll and possible interpretations.

aero - I agree that the Pro is probably more for corporate accounts that are standardized on WM than it is for the general consumer. The Pre will not comply in that market for some time. The 800w apparently with all of its problems did not meet this corporate need and Sprint needed to change that. Thus the Pro is coming (as the Diamond and Touch Pro do not really fit well for the general corporate types).

Just my opinion as a business person.

Well, fair amount of votes now and it seems to match up with what we've seen so far.

Just not a lot of interest in the Pro.

Yea, hopefully things will change once it get's released.
If I already had an 800, the economy where it is, WM works for my needs, I don't want to start over with a new OS, not now,
then I prolly would just stay where I was. That's me.

All I can say is I really like my GTP.
Was I waiting on the edge of my seat for it's release? No.
The Pre seems to be the next anticipation, as far as these boards are concerned.

When someone walks into a Sprint Store and sees the Classy Beauty of the STP, it may just stop them in there tracks. If it's setting right next to the Pre... well it may be passed up.

If I walked into a Sprint Store, looking for a WM device, The STP would be a great find. Hopefully Palm can win people back over with their attempt to do things right from now on.
    Just call me Berd.

Except by Sprint and Palm who obviously think it will sell better than the 800w. Or don't want to have the support problems the 800w had.
The high "interest" and post counts on the 800w had to do with problems.

the large 200 and 300 purchase at a time buyers don't come here, and post to polls but Sprint and Palm know what they want. that is why they already decided on 800w vs Pro -- in favor of the Pro.

I voted Pro first, Pre later.

If the Pre is released early and the SDK looks good, I may go ahead and jump straight to the Pre, apps ready or not.

I am giving serious thought to getting the pro - as the sprint treo pro has a processor that runs at a much faster Mhz than the GSM version. I find my 800w bogging down a bit and I am guessing that my Redfly will be more responsive with a faster phone processor.

I'll more than likely pickup the pro from eBay soon and get the pre when it is released in May.

I often wonder if the 800w was the shortest selling PDA device in history (one that was on shelves and selling).

All jokes aside, it would be an interesting "side" article for one of the mods to consider.

I am an 800w user. I bought one the day it released. I must have received a good one, because I don't have any of the problem that some have, other than the small battery. That isn't an issue since I am in the car a lot and can charge. I have looked at the Pro, but for me it is not worth the cost to upgrade. Now the Pre looks very nice, and I think that would be the perfect phone for me. I plan on getting one soon after release, but only if I can somehow talk my way into keeping my SERO account. I have 3 SERO lines (2 for me and 1 for my wife). If I could drop one SERO line and add the everything plan without penalty I would probably do that.
